HI All.
I am an infequent traveller but always keen to read about ways to do travel smarter. I recently signed up to American Express Platinum for the 40,000 points(free return to SIN) and 1 free flight/yr(AUS) (Virgin). Now I want to clock up the points to get to my next free Singapore Airlines flight. Any tips on best ways to utilise Amex very welcome. I struggle to find acceptance still (had one years back but ditched it due to lack of (business) interest out there). I am off to Europe next year in Jul so also loking for a clever way to get me and two kids to Italy(Bologna) and then on to Manchester for 3 weeks economically and quickly - if thats possible !
Back to work now...ciao

Welcome to AFF andyperth!

You should be able to use Amex for most supermarkets, petrol, telecommunication, travel, tax etc. I don't pay everything with credit card but will use it wherever I can if there are no significant surcharges.

Welcome Andy!

I'm no expert with AMEX so can't help at all there, however when looking at flights to Bologna, it is usually more economical and easier with flight availability to fly to Rome or Milan and take the train to Bologna. I find Bologna a pain to get flights in/out of due to having to stop over somewhere else more and the cost is ridiculous during their summer. Direct flights from Bologna to Manchester one way are around $100 one way this far out with a standard carrier.
