Does anyone know if the flights from Perth to coughet are flown with planes having the old premium economy seats, or the new business class seats ? I'm looking at some award flights, and only Business class is showing as available on the days I'm interested in, but I don't want to end up on a plane with the old style seats.

Thanks.

Even if they're the new style seats, the type of aircraft may be an important consideration. I recently flew DJ in J DPS-SYD on a 738. Very ordinary. I've detailed it, and a photo of the hideous breakfast, in my trip report on Ubud, Bali.Against that, I had close to the best J experience on DJ SYD-PER in April (on an A330) so I reckon the size of aircraft could be important.

PER-HKT is on the 737. I certainly wouldn't enjoy it on a flight of that length.

Even in Business Class ?
We'd be flying from Sydney, so it would by SYD-PER-HKT and return.

It is a very long time to be flying in a 737, that is all I am saying.

There are others on here who would agree.

I agree re the 737 being inadequate for that sort of travel but come at it from a different perspective: I wouldn't waste J in it. The chairs don't recline that much and the food in J on DJ on their international shorthaul is pretty dire.

My experience on a 738 in DJ J DPS-SYD was that it was insufficiently better than in Y (which I have also done on that route) to warrant the extra.

Food out of DPS dire in economy - sandwiches were awful. 6.5 hours in a 737 is rough (even in row 3). Especially with only 2 toilets.

Saying that what's CNS-PER in winter - must be about the same flight time.

What's the next best alternative? I have plenty of points with DJ and QF but I don't see any availability in QF out of HKT or even BKK. I'd rather use the points than to buy tickets outright.

And not to mention inadequate AV too!

If you can get a vacant seat between you and and your companion on a 738, they're fine -- but being squished up as one of 3 in those rows is most unpleasant. Bad enough ADL-SYD, but international short-haul, yuck.

Just buy a flexi and use half points upgrade.
It's not like it's many points anyway? And hey, 2-2 seating is better than 3-3 anyday.

No intention of going SYD-HKT via PER in Y. That's the only alternative DJ has to HKT. QF has the JQ A330 but its not much better in Y than DJ and there's no award seats anyway.
Can one get DJ award seats to Singapore ? Perhaps we can do that instead? And then air Asia or Silk Air to HKT. We'll be traveling with a toddler in our lap as well (21 month old).

J award is 73500 + $228 return when I look, and that's a330 to PER then 737 to HKT, fairly hefty.

I think you can do EY to Singapore from BNE though for generally okay prices, not sure about points though.

I flew Mel - HKT in Premium Economy last year (MEL - Per in J). Bad experience PER - HKT, but that was only due to the fact Premium economy followed a business flight. There was only 2 of us in Premium Economy both flights, so that was a blessing.

I am booked to do SYD - HKT and then HKT - MEL over new years, all in J. I booked Flexi then used points upgrade. It's worth it in my experience, just for the fact there are less people around you, dedicated loo etc.

How is transferring between terminals in Perth ? Does DJ do anything for J customers , or do we have to hop on the airport bus - is it better to take a taxi? Also will we need to collect and re-check in bags in Perth in either/both directions ?

That is a long time to spend on a 737 even in business class.

Any entry into Australia with international/domestic you must clear customs, collect luggage and go through quarantine.
