Hi All,

I'm not new to AFF but my blog is new. Please have a look at it and sign the petition for a NEW HOSPITAL for Muswellbrook.

We keep the lights on for NSW (enough power for 3.25 million homes) and export $5 billion of coal. Net revenue to NSW Treasury is $250 million p.a.

Please help us get a new hospital.

I seek the help of fellow-AFFers (resident in NSW) in a very worthwhile cause:

PETITION FOR A NEW HOSPITAL IN MUSWELLBROOK

The public hospital in Muswellbrook, in the Upper Hunter region, is desperately in need of replacement. Refurbishment of its archaic and grossly undersized facilities is obstructed by severe asbestos contamination in the building's structure. The best the New South Wales government can offer is a refurbishment plan stretching over 15 years, because of a lack of funds. Muswellbrook provides 40% of New South Wales' power needs and contributes $5 billion to coal exports every year. A detailed submission to Cabinet seeking a new hospital has gone unanswered. The residents of Muswellbrook have now launched a petition to ask the New South Wales government to build a NEW hospital within 5 years, and they need your help to collect the required 10,000 signatures before the government will debate the proposal.

Please help publicise our campaign. You can download and print the attachments, and collect signatures on behalf of a town which keeps your lights burning and pours vast royalty funds into the New South Wales treasury for everyone's benefit: in 2012 the net contribution from Muswellbrook was $240 million.

The online petition is really there to draw attention to our physical paper petition. Unfortunately a petition to NSW Government goes by the rather old-fashioned rules of original signature on a piece of paper. It takes a long time to gather 10,000 signatures but we are approaching 8,000 and continuing.

Thank you to all those who helped to make the petition (for a New Hospital in Muswellbrook) a successful 10,578 signatures. A written reply from Minister Skinner is due on December 19 but discussion in the House has been deferred until Parliament resumes in 2014.
However we have already had an impact with Hunter New England Health applying for a substantial grant to be applied to work at Muswellbrook Hospital. Hopefully 2014 will have some good news for the town. Last year Muswellbrook Shire had the highest worker productivity in NSW at $240,885 (State average $122,500).
