By searching at Philippine Airlines :: Home , I was able to find return business class fares from MNL to LHR on some days (depart May 2014, return June 2014) for US$1417 return which is about A$1555.
The typical MEL or SYD - MNL return fare on this carrier, PR in economy class is about A$1030 at present: quite high, but through Cheap Flights, Discount Hotels and Package Holiday Deals at zuji.com.au I have found occasional days as low as A$899.
A good travel agent should be able to beat these online fares, which feature a near new Boeing 777-300ER between MNL and LHR with AVOD and (in business class) angled lie flat seats, although now that it's not the busy December school holidays the MEL or SYD - MNL return leg is on a fairly elderly A343 that lacks at seat entertainment.
However this is quite a good deal for a mixed class fare to LHR (not LGW).
PR flies four days a week ex SYD and three ex MEL (the latter is Wed, Fri and Sun) and usually five days a week (an early morning departure necessitating a pay your own overnight in Manila, with its nearby business centre of Makati offering lots of hotels) from MNL to LHR.
Connections coming back are better - a few hours in MNL and onto the overnight flight to SYD or MEL - but I suggest stopping over in each direction as there are lots of beautiful beaches an hour's flight away on the central islands called Visayas.
PR also fly from BNE and DRW three days a week using a single aisle A320 (when I travelled on it during recent school holidays, it was using a very new A321 but this has stopped for the time being).
So called mixed class fares have long been promoted by Finnair using QF on the initial leg ex Australia, but the PR fare is all on the one airline. The Mabuhay Miles FF program is quite a reasonable one as 'the points never expire' (unless PR itself 'expires', but that's the same for any airline).
