i want to start my trip from cairns to hong kong but on the qantas site the only connections are through melb syd i want to go direct to hong kong from cairns should i go to a qantas agent thanks ian

I'm confused! it's a naturally state of being for me. I do know that flights out from cairns are fairly resticted in what's available. But I don't know the limitations that I'm sure others here have memorised. So my best suggestion is to use the round the world planning tool on the qnatas website, stick in cairns to hong kong and see what flight options it throws up.

thanks i know that cathay pacific flys direct from cairns but when i go and book the flight on qantas frequent they dont give me that flight but a nightmare of 16 hour travel rather then 7 i thought you could redeem points on other one world how do you that if the qantas site doesnt allow you

Not all oneworld flights are available for award bookings online.

Call Qantas and they will be able to check dates etc for the Cathay flights. You will pay 2500pts per pax for phone assistance. (unless you can convince them to waive the fee for being "not-bookable" online). Members here have had varying degreees of success in avoiding the 2500pt charge.

if you want to book award seats on Cathay Pacific flights using Qantas Frequent Flyer points, its generally required to pick up the phone and call Qantas - and pay the 2500 point penalty for their system's lack of functionality.

You can usually have them waive this fee due to that very system limitation... At least with any kind of status (Gold or Plat)...

I was under the impression that CX flights were the only ones that did not display on the QF website. Sometimes they do and then they don't.

My experience has been that some customer service agents want to charge the fee even as a Platinum. Thank them for their time and call back again. You will eventually get a customer service agent willing to waive the fee.
