Hi all,

I hope that someone can help with my query :)

I am staying at Sofitel Brisbane for the first time soon. I understand this property is privately owned - does this mean there aren't any entitlements for a Platinum A-Club member?

Thanks in advance

Last time I stayed at Sofitel Brisbane (and admittedly it was a year ago), you got nothing.....

Still nothing AFAIK. No points, no recognition.

It's a tragedy that they can be called a Sofitel, yet thumb their nose at nearly all aspects of the loyalty program...

(BTW, they should work for FaceBook places check-in though!)

As a Plat member you should be able receive upgrade to a higher level room and late check-outs at a Sofitel - regardless of whether its owned by Accor or a franchise. However, you may have to point it out to the front office staff as Accor as a group are known for withholding benefits if possible.

If you're looking for alternatives:
- Novotel IMHO is the nicest A-Club hotel in inner Brisbane (excl. Sofitel). Location may not suit depending on your business.
- Mercure comes second, although I'm not a great fan of the hotel.
- IBIS is a close runner to Mercure, but the rooms are very basic.

I stand corrected...gosh whats the point of having loyalty program but then hotels can have the option to opt out.

Thanks Mal. I'm not a fan of the Ibis or Mercure. I am already booked at this stage, but I'll be back soon so may check out the Novotel.

Brisbane Novotel should give a floor upgrade, but yes there are no official benefits from Plat status at Novotel. Same deal at Brisbane Mercure.

Both hotels though definitely give points and count towards status.

Ok. Just tossing up whether to stay at Hilton (with my HHonors Gold upgrade request) or Novotel with A-Club Platinum. Price difference is about $80 for the one night stay. I'm inclined to go Hilton.

I got nothing special at Novotel BNE as a Plat.

It is nice though after the renovation, and the buffet breakfast was pretty good.

I stayed at Novotel Bne in January as a Plat - two rooms, one upgraded to 13th floor Premium other one upgraded to 14th floor suite. Free parking, late checkout and chocolates:)
We enjoyed the rooms, friendly service.

Thanks. Did you have to ask for the upgrade, or were they just offered?

Bah!

I got the exact room I booked on the 4th floor :(

I even asked if they do anything special for Plats and was told by the front desk supervisor "yes, we provide points".

I wasn't really fussed though. I had a full schedule when I was in BNE and only used the room to sleep and freshen up.

Well that has been a past special feature with A club

I rang but they said to remind them at the desk. One room had been upgraded (hence the chocs and welcome) and they upgraded the second at the desk with no hesitation.

I've decided I'm going to go Hilton as I've never stayed at a Hilton but have stayed at a Novotel before. That's as good a reason as any!
