Platinum and other personal cards

After a bit of discussion with the nice people at Amex they have clarified you need a business card to refer a business product and a personal card to refer a personal card product.

I can refer personal (and Platinum) cards for AFF members. It is likely in most cases you will earn extra bonus points above what you could expect by applying direct yourself. For example applying direct for a Platinum Edge card will net you 10,000 points. By referral you will receive an additional 5,000 points to net 15,000 points. As the referrer I will receive 10,000 points, so it is a win/win situation. Once you have the card you too can help refer friends and colleagues, and 9 referrals later you will have enough points for a return trip to Europe in business class! Really, it is that simple.

Just a query - which airline do you get to Europe with that few points? I am accruing slowly but that is a nice target.

Dale you can J return Europe ex SYD or MEL with MH for 102,000pts. This was the redemption cost to me recently.
My example was based on 15,000 sign up bonus points and 9 plat edge referrals of 10,000 pts each.

Is this just for Australian customers? Can you refer someone in NZ??

As Dale mentions elsewhere it is also possible to acquire a Plat Edge card via application for the Gold Charge card. This is a smart method to spread your earning capability and earn additional sign up points...30,000 for the Gold Charge card.

Facebook referral is the only referral method permitted by Amex but don't be put off by it. It is private, no one else knows you have applied. It requires the 2 parties become facebook friends but this can be a one night stand and you can part ways the following day.

I am unsure but we can give it a try.

edit: I imagine a NZ application would be unsuccessful. It would probably make more sense for another NZ AFF member to offer to refer you.

To add my 2 cents here, this would depend on the type of card you are applying for. When you have a look at AMEX AU's website, to apply for each card, it will have a specific income requirement + residential status requirement.

Some cards have leaner requirements (i.e. 457 visa is sufficient for example) than others.

On a general rule though, if you have a credit history in Australia and would normally be able to open a credit card, then you should be eligible for most AMEX cards too (providing that they like your credit score that is).

The above is obviously under the assumption that you will be applying for an AU AMEX card.

How can Australians obtain a USA -based credit card ?

Eg. the IHG Rewards card ?

Basically, the answer is - you can't ...

But is there a way ??
