Hi,
probably during my next overseas trip (SYD-NRT-HEL-AMS-MAD-LIS and back via same cities) I will reach QF Platinum and I was wondering if I can enjoy all the benefits without actually having the card. I assume the boarding passes will show EMERALD status so that might help.

Thanks,
/L

The main limitation of not having the card is for BA lounge access, where they generally insist that show the card for access. So you may be limited to the business class lounge for BA locations.

Most other instances, the status showing in the booking or on the BP is accepted.

Are you flying anywhere, where the BA lounge might be your only option?

Not sure but think that:
SYD - ok QF lounge
NRT - ok QF lounge
HEL - ok Finnair lounge
AMS - ok MENZIES Finnair lounge
MAD - Iberia Lounge
LIS - TAP lounge (for Iberia)

Should be able to avoid BA lounges

There is a BA terraces at AMS which might (?) be better than the Menzies lounge. I would just if you can getting a print of your QF account after hitting WP and taking it with you - worst they can say is no..

Good suggestion to get a print-out for the BA lounge in AMS. I will try and smile my way in there.
Only thing left is to endure my first J* flight ever next week SYD-CHC (any tips on making this more enjoyable are welcome) !:(

Fly another carrier?

;)

Unfortunately the direct QF/DJ flights don't not suit me :-| Maybe just avoid having to go to CHC altogether (or opt for the longer CHC-AKL-SYD option)

The OP will be able to enter the BA AMS lounge given their SG status so long as they are flying a oneworld airline. There isn't a First lounge option and be warned the BA lounge is pretty basic.

The flight to CHC isn't that bad. It is a short flight and CHC airport is small so clearing customs is a breeze. There is a QP in both locations so just stock up on booze/food before you travel.

I see its been mentioned below you can avoid BA lounges....

But i can confirm most of what NM says except for one thing i noticed on my trip a couple of days ago, BA no not print status on your boarding pass !
So i had to present my card, maybe they would have looked it up but i had my card handy so no issues.

I have done SYD-CHC a few times as the scheduling suited better.
On a more expensive 'Flexi-Fare', you will likely be seated at or close to the front - and sometimes with a free seat next to you. Also the QF points & SC are full economy. I have always been treated well by F/A's.

Thanks for the experiences you have flying SYD-CHC on J*. I will be flying on a jetflex ticket so that might help. Will report on the service once taken the flight.

out of interest, I managed to talk my way into the AMS BA lounge with only a Y boarding pass and a 2-day old email print out from AA saying "Congratulations on a successful Platinum Challenge"

found memories of that lounge - one of only a few that has offered me heineken & smoked salmon......8am in the morning ;)

I could do with a decent raw herring (hard to get in Sydney) but will skip the Heineken (for me it's like an Australian drinking Fosters :)).

i agree with you on the fish! however I am glad I discovered those jars of inglad sill at ikea! mmmmm! now just to find good aquavit!

Auch - you lost me with the aquavit but I'm sure SAS will serve this as part of their in-flight service.

ludoh,

If you can get an exit row this flight is, from experience, a very pleasant one. We ate up in the QP before hand and took our own water in board. Not a problem for a 3hr trip.

My BA boarding pass had my status printed clearly and I didn't need to show my card to get into the FLounge (although I needed to show my card to get into Arrivals Lounge after the QF flight).
