Hubby just booked and paid for the family flight MEL SYD in January for 6 of us. Only he is platinum status.
Previously he can get us all as travelling companions economy x seats at no charge. They are now additional $29 each for the five of us, only he has no charge. Is this correct?

Also, the kids (adults) and their partners don't have Velocity frequent flyer membership. Can he earn the status credits on this if he puts his ff number in?

Many thanks in advance

He can't add his FF number to another passenger.

Family pool can include a maximum of 2 adults pooling to the beneficiary.

I saw this recently on a booking for 2pax, only of one whom is platinum: when selecting seats during the booking process it wanted to charge for Economy X for the non-platinum passenger. I skipped seat selection during booking and went into manage booking later and could select Economy X seats for all pax on the booking at no charge. I think it's a bug.

If you've already paid the economy X fee for the other 5 then you could try calling up and getting the fee refunded.

Quote them this page, which seems clear to me: Platinum Membership

"Complimentary Economy X seat selection
Platinum members and travelling companions in the same booking may select Economy X seating providing extra legroom and preferred overhead locker space on Domestic and International Short Haul flights operated by Virgin Australia."

Perfect. Thank you for this information it does sound like a bug then.

Thus it’s be a good idea to get everyone signed up as Velocity members, it’s free. The rules are family pooling is only for people at the same address…

Yeah when my kids were little I thought I would get their points and SC - I didn't know much about the way of FF things back then. After taking them on their first flight and realising I only got points for myself I signed them up for their own FF accounts quick smart.

Just as a data point, I (SG) booked flights last night MEL-MCY and return and included my partner (WP) and was able to select both Economy X seats for free.

Booked BNE-SYD return earlier this week for dates in November, the outbound wanted to charge $29 for Mrs Hawk, but the return was complimentary. Completed the booking with Mrs Hawk in 6A and then made the change in manage booking afterwards without issue.
