Guys,
Why doesn't the Qantas FF site tell you how far you are away from attaining Platinum One, considering you need 3600 SC and 2700 of those need to be on QF metal or code share?

I am about 900 SC from the 3600 mark with 3.5 months til anniversary rollover, but have no idea what my QF metal ratio is. Do we have to calculate it manually from our past trips?

Also, what is the concrete definition of what flights qualify in the 2700SC ratio requirement?

Thanks

According to Qantas:

Qantas said:
To reach this new recognition level, in each membership year you need to earn a minimum of 3,600 Status credits*, with at least 2,700 earned on Qantas marketed flights^ where Status credits normally accrue.

* Status credits are earned on eligible Qantas, oneworld Alliance airlines, Air Pacific and Jetstar Airlines (limited to Starter Plus, Starter Max and Business Max fares only) services, but please note that fare type and route restrictions may apply. See Airline Earning Table for details. Status credits earned on subsidised airfares do not count toward PlatinumOne qualification.
^ Status credits are earned on Qantas marketed flights (that is, with a QF flight number on your ticket) except on flights operated by Jetstar or Jetstar Asia other than in Economy classes of B, H, K, or Y (earn in L class is eligible only when travelling on a oneworld fare product). See Airline Earning Table for details.

Put simply:

Tanks.I knew all that but want to know how we are supposed to gauge where we are at with the 2700 SC ratio?

I ended up calling them, and found out I was 110 points away (>5000 status credits and didn't even notice Platinum one) so I figured I have 42 days left before they kill my status credits, I'll need to find somewhere to fly too in business class...

Just on another P1 question, do they outrank CL for international upgrade notice?

I saw this on the Qantas website

Flight Upgrade Awards will not be confirmed on international services at time of booking or when your registration is received. Requests for Flight Upgrade Awards on international services will be considered in accordance with the following timetable:

  • Platinum One Frequent Flyers, from up to 7 days prior to scheduled departure
  • Platinum Frequent Flyers or higher, from 48 hours prior to scheduled departure
  • All Frequent Flyers, within 24 hours of scheduled departure.

Nope. The processing order is CL, WP1, guests of WP1 (those without WP1 status but whose upgrades were requested by a WP1), WP, SG, QP-PS, PS, QP-NB, NB, followed by non-members (whose upgrades have been requested by someone else).

The bullet points above simply state that only WP1 will be notified a week ahead, then that WP and WP1 from 2 days prior, and everyone else within 24 hours of departure. CL benefits aren't listed on the QF website, but I'd expect them to be cleared ahead of the WP1 upgrades a week in advance where QF are able. :)

Do CLs even bother with points upgrades? I'd always thought that CLs would score op-ups on most flights. Any CLs care to comment?

That's a big risk (for QF) with op ups because if a member always uses points to upgrade an never receives a free upgrade they will feel screwed. QF does NOT proactively monitor this level of activity. I suspect it adds to the attrition level of platinum and above to competing airlines.

Thanks for the help ChrisCh

CLs don't always get op-ups on flights because it would mean everyone would just buy the cheapest ticket and hope for an upgrade

And from the CL's point of view, they don't want to show up to the airport sweating on an op-up when they can use points and have a reasonable amount of certainty that they are flying in a better seat

Just wondering how you can make a comment like that with such certainty? As far as I know Qantas don't make public the relative importance of CL to other statuses when gaining upgrades. Certainly it would make sense that P1> WP > SG > NB. But how CL fits in relative to P1 I would hazard to guess, since P1 is still quite new. Do you have some insider knowledge? or do you have experience where a CL got an upgrade request ahead of a P1?

There would be many CL's that wouldn't need to worry about upgrades - how many politicians do you spot sitting down the back? Int would be different however, they'd still be seated in J at a minimum.
