My wife and I are interested in purchasing business flight tickets to London from Perth.

Looking to use Points and Pay option. Does anyone have a tip on the best way go about this? Either pay for a economy ticket and use points for the rest?

Cheers Manlai

We're going to need a bit more information before any of us can make some educated suggestions.

Some information that would be very helpful:
  • You/your wife's current status level
  • How many points do you currently have (to the nearest 000')
  • When are you looking to fly (Month & Year)
  • Are you looking to go direct or stop over en route?
  • Are the points earned to date for the sole purpose of this specific trip, or did you have other goals in mind which you were saving points for?

I'm not sure points plus pay works that way. Basically you pay for your ticket using both points and cash. So you would be buying a business ticket and you could set the cash cost at the same level as an economy ticket with points to cover the difference.

If you buy economy with cash then you only have the option of requesting an upgrade, something that is hard to get.

Points plus pay is poor value I believe. Better to look at any seat awards or classic awards. Well at least consider the cost of those awards.

To add to the list of information required, when do you wish to travel. If you haven't already mentioned this.
