Points Club member - child

I was pondering whether any AFF members had children (under 18) who were Points Club members. Obviously credit card earning is not possible but there are other ways to earn points, with some hard graft, that could potentially mean entry to Points Club. The key benefit I am looking for from it would be the SC earned on any award flights (the Gentleman and I are already Points Club members but my son is not). Any thoughts/comments/suggestions welcome - feel free to PM me if fight club rules apply :)

What's the age limit for everyday rewards?

I doubt there would be many, as you note under 18 cannot earn from credit card churning, home loans, wine purchases etc., which tend to be the biggest points earnings. Other large earners like insurance (home/contents, pet, car, health) would also be difficult for under 18yo.

Certainly can trickle feed points from things like Everyday Rewards, but that's a hard slog towards Points Club. Qantas Shopping would be a possibility, channeling some family spend through the child's FF account, including things like eBay (eBay account name and QFF membership name do not need to match). But still going to be a real stretch for most people/families to earn the 150K points through general spending at Qantas affiliated retailers.

I honesty can't imagine how a <18 could earn >150k points (even with the 20k from flying max) without CC spend, wine etc. How would that work?

Could one take out some financial products (eg: Latrobe) in their name? but that would be a big spend AND have tax implications methinks, since <18 can only earn a small amount iirc.

so what's left apart from woolies? BP have an age limit?

seems to me if the aim is to get SC earn only via PC it may be easier/cheaper to do runs?

It can be done on WOW group spend. Need to be tactical and have a few spend X for X points go your way.

Easy to do with bonus point offers on gift cards/credit cards from Woolies. I think 180K was the max recently allowed for an offer.
oooh! right. Gift Cards. I did not think about that.

Still a fair amount of spend but value in the GC's.

Yep, you would need a good way to launder the gift cards into real value as I expect you would be looking at around (or over) $100K worth of gift cards. That is not something most families can afford to "spend" for such benefits. Laundering the gift cards through some sort of business spending might be viable, but not an option for many folks.

I would think if family had that sort of disposable income or ability to spend then status/SC would not be too much of a concern since it would be cheaper to purchase premium seats and earn that way (or just enjoy!)

still, it's an interesting scenario.

Couple of other thoughts...

- Qantas Shopping purchases
- BP Rewards (16+)
- Put the power bill in their name with Red Energy 😂 Had a brief look at their T&C here and here and couldn't see an age limitation
- Funnel through a 3rd party program that allows internal transfers, like Marriott Bonvoy, Amex MR > your Bonvoy > Child's Bonvoy > QFF.

I expected the Bankwest Qantas transaction account would be another option, but that's 18+ for some reason.

If using one of the 20x WWR promos, $15k spend = 300k WWR = 150k QFF
