Hi all

I potentially need to fly my mother to Oz from the UK as soon as I can. She has a flight booked with EK for 16 March staying for 8 weeks around the time the baby was due.

I now need to get her here ASAP and QF are offering an F seat for 384K points but as I do not have those points in my account it wont tell me the surcharges - does anyone know what they would be?

I am weighing up the cost her changes (if possible) to her existing ticket vs the surcharges that QF would charge plus the flight cost to LHR. The points cost is irrelevant.

Any help would be appreciated.

I know a cheaper option would Amex -> SPG -> AA but I need to book in the next day or so.

Cheers

S

I'm guessing about $800! QF would be able to tell you over the phone I'm sure

I saw availability and it priced at 385 pounds 50pence for first class thru Hong Kong so it is a bit over $800

I don't quite have enough QFF points to check for a return First class award ticket but are the taxes different for 2 oneways as opposed to a return? Anyway the taxes for LHR-SYD flight (QF via BKK) are GBP232.10 and taxes for SYD-LHR flight (BA to SIN and then QF to LHR) are AUD265.21. So taxes all up ~AUD780 using 0.45 exchange rate for GBP.

I hope that helps.

Yes, they will be different due to the different "departure" taxes from Australia and from the UK (long-haul premium cabin departure from UK is big cost).

I think Johnk's question was would they be different for LHR-SYD-LHR (one return) versus LHR-SYD + SYD-LHR booked seperately (2 one ways)

OK NM I am now confused. Why would taxes on an LHR-SYD return in First Class be any different to one way First Class LHR-SYD and then one way First Class SYD-LHR? There is 1 premium departure from LHR in both itneraries.

By the way I have quoted 2 oneways LHR-SYD and SYD-LHR and together the taxes are cheaper than the $800+ mentioned for taxes in the other 2 posts....

I was saying the taxes on LHR-SYD (one way) will be different to SYD-LHR (one way). The only difference for LHR-SYD-LHR vs SYD-LHR-SYD will be that one will be calculated in GBP while the other will be calculated in A$. Sorry if I was confused and confused others.

Much cheaper JohnK?

Thanks all for the assist on this :)

Thanks for the replies guys (again). Due to a lack of availability in whY she has upgraded her original flight here to J and changed the date (you see where I get my desire to fly in J from don't you ;)). She should arrive on Thursday morning.

Hope all is well with bub?

Has bub made early arrangements and now mum is coming early too?

Moot point now I know but aren't the +++ the same for J as for F?

Bub doing best to arrive early, docs doing best to persuade him that it is better inside.. doc's so far have the upper hand but as is always the case in this situation baby is holding all the aces, kings, queens and jacks...

Just for the record bub is at 32.0 weeks but 2.5KG - if had stayed full term they would have needed lifting equipment to get him out ;)

@opusman You are correct I think - but I only have 36K in my QF account so couldnt check that either.

Ah, best wishes with it all.

Just tell bub to wait a bit longer! haha if only it was that easy!

This is the point at which questions are asked regarding accuracy of dates ;). All the best for the remainder of the process (i.e. for the next 18 or so years) for the simongr family.

It can be different since the fuel fines vary depending on the country in which the ticket is issued. Qantas fuel fines can vary based on country of ticket issue. If booking Oz-UK-Oz , it will be issued in Australia and the Australian fuel fine rates will be applied. If booked as 2 one-ways then there will be Australian Fines for Oz-UK and Egglish fines for Eggland-Oz
