So I was just playing around on the QF Website looking at some JASA possibilities for my trip to NZ early next year. I got a bit sidetracked and looked through the Qantas Club pages, and then noticed under the benefits section under "On Departure UPgrade" the table shows 3 columns

a) Upgrade Credits (ranging from 1-5 depending on distance)
b) Discount Economy to BUsiness (miles) and
c) Full Economy to Business.

So what are "Upgrade Credits"? is this a new benefit for QFF members? Is it an error, or am I just not in the know as a mere lowly SG member (roll on WP after my trip to the States!! :) )

I know lots of US carriers offer upgrade certificates as part or elite qualification. Is this what QF are doing??

Very interested to find out.. All info greatly appreciated.

Cheers

When there were 5 redemption zones, Upgrade credits used to be offered by QFF and were earned at 1 per 250 SCs which dropped to 1 per 450 SCs. These could be used to upgrade flights on a zone basis instead of points. 1 SC was needed to upgrade a 1 zone flight with 5 being the max needed for a 5 zone flight ( such as LHR-SYD )

So does that mean that this NOT available anymore? I'm assuming not as I've earned over 1000 SC in the past 12 months and not receive any Upgrade Credits. Was this replaced by the 5000 mile loyalty bonus for every 450 SC's earned?

Cheers

Qantas used to issue Upgrade Credits after earning 250SC. This was replaced by the Loyalty Bonus, where points were issued. At the same time they moved from using upgrade credits to points for processing upgrades.

After the changeover, upgrade credits could still be used - although they were no longer issued. I would have thought by now, they would have all been used or expired. I guess they can stll be used, although there is no currently any issued.

Thanks Mark. What a shame this doesn't exist anymore. I think it's a better idea than the 5000 mile loyalty bonus. Miles are so easy to earn (flying, hotels, Credit cards etc), but an upgrade credit based on status credits.. well that would be way more appealing to me.

Wonder if this will ever change back?

They're all well expired now. I'm surprised they haven't updated the pages properly.

When they were introduced in 2001, an UC was awarded for every 250 SC's earned. This was changed to every 450 SC's a year or two later.

Since May 2005, no more could be earned. As posted they were replaced with the 5000 point "Loyalty Bonus".
