I know that it isn't popular to do this but this is the only way this will work for us right now.

I want to book a flight from Canberra to Bundaberg, If I use points+pay It will cost me around 35,000 points and $280 to get 2A and 2C tickets (1C is an infant) I have a $129 voucher to apply towards it.

I need to ensure that I earn SC for this flight, will I ? I'm under the impression that if I use Point+Pay this is the case, but the seat is a "Reward Seat" which I believe doesn't earn SC or points.
Can someone clarify this for me before I book which I want to today.

I'm only 100SC away from getting back to Gold so need those SC for these flights (we family pool) I don't know how many I'll earn for this, but we are also flying Gold Coast - Canberra on the return journey and will be paying Cash for those flights. Hoping we can get over the line.

You will not earn points or SC for the first flight. If burning points is not the biggest priority, but retaining Gold is - why not simply purchase a couple of fares that will send you close to the 100? It will probably cost more, but not as much as you'd have to spend to get back to Gold if you drop to Silver.

I agree with clipped wings....

I'm already back to Silver, I need 100 more SC to get back to gold after I dropped last year.

Hmmm, think i'll just pay for the flights and go for a higher fare class to get over the line.

Also, go for Elevate, this will earn you more SC, than Getaway.
EconX (xY) on its own, does not give you any more SC either, Elevate and Flex are the only Y fares that will earn more SC, than Getaway.
Trust me on this.
Oh, yes, read the other thread too, my main diatribe is there.

Thanks I was thinking Elevate, that will tip us over to Gold.
Thanks.

The rule here - on VA anyway - is that if the fare shows as being a "Reward", you wont earn status credits. Reward seats fares must be paid in full using Points, though you can chose to use 'cash' or Points for Tax/Fees etc.
If the fare you book doesn't show 'Reward' you'll earn status credits depending on the fare type booked and sector length. Good luck going for Gold!
