Afternoon all, still totally new to all these codes and booking conditions (ie: cheap fare / no points). My actual journy is below, BUT I'm still confused regarding IF any points/credits will infact occur!

1) Melb - London = FINNAIR* (*"flight operated by cathay pacific")

a) Melbourne ---> Hong Kong [Economy (N) ] .... then
b) Hong Kong ---> Helsinki [Economy (O) ] .... then
c) Helsinki ---> London [Economy (O)].

2) Rome - Helsinki (FINNAIR) [Economy (O) ].

3) Helsinki - Hong Kong [Economy (O) ].

4) Hong Kong - Melbourne (Cathay Pacific) [Economy (O) ].

Now what I'm confused about is Cathay Pacific says that status credits / points WONT be done, due to the booking type / cheapness.

BUT.....

FINNAIR on theor website quotes: "Booking class international flights: Economy 50% = V - L - N - S - Q - O - K - M - P - T"

Thats written on their website. Below is another page (all airline partners I just found) with the same info.

pointshop.finnair.com/partner.php?cPath=552_555_410

It is a chance that no one knows what they are saying (cathay pacific over the phone), but I am still actually getting the points, but a lower rate? [50%]....

What ulimately matters is the rules for the program you are trying to credit the points to. Which program are you planning on using?

Also it matters if you fly under a codeshare or under the carriers flight number. An O fare class on Cathay Flight would not earn any points or status credits. While an O fare class on a Finnair codeshare on a Cathay flight would earn points and status credits. This is assuming you are crediting the flight to Qantas.

And note also it depends on which flight number you are ticketed on. If you are ticketed with an AY flight, then you'll earn QFF points as per the Finnair earn rates - even if the flight is on Cathay metal, as it's a codeshare flight.

If it's Qantas FF that you want to credit to, then 'O' on CX does not earn points or SC's.
It's the flight number that is important for earning, although being oneworld operated is also important.
