Sorry in advance for the abundant questions. My partner is leaving on 8 Dec, on QF31. When can seats be reserved online? Her 'my booking area' doesn't allow her to select her seat. I look online at expedia and the two good seats (80A/k) are taken. However, the good seat in 71 is available.

NB, she is QP only.

She's also pretty keen to upgrade her economy ticket to premium economy. She has the points and the area online on the booking asks if she wants to upgrade. Can someone tell me what her chances are?

She has requested a vegan meal. She wants to know if the premium economy meals will actually be different than the economy meals for the 'special selection'. Finally, does anyone know if she can order a lactose free and low fat meal?

Thanks everyone!

As mentioned many times on here before, the chances of upgrades depends on a combination of a number of factors: a) the fare bucket purchased; b) the status of the person flying; c) the status of the person applying for the upgrade (yes, it can be relevant); and d) how many people with higher status have also applied for upgrades.

As a bronze flyer, normally the chance would be considered to be low. But one never knows - was on a flight to HK and had a bronze flyer upgraded from Y to J - he was as amazed as could be, but had put in for it. So I suggest your friend puts in for hers - if you don't apply, you don't stand a chance, do you? :)

Basically, if you get an upgrade, you do not get your special meal. So, if meal is more important than upgrade, do not request upgrade.

Also, there is some evidence that having a special meal request may reduce chances of upgrade.

Vegan, Lactose free and low fat?

And it's still called food????:mrgreen:

(Sorry!! Couldn't resist...)

QF offer a fairly comprehensive range of special meals.. I'd have a look at those and se which is a "best fit"... the Hindu (Strict) might be the one???

Qantas reviewed their special meals last year, and no longer offer the low fat option (not sure about the other two).

The diabetic meal should be low fat, but you may have the FAs assuming you are diabetic (which may or may not be irritating to you). For some reason, on all the domestic flights they include a strange little cake with 13 grams of fat in it that was frozen, then thawed out.

i request Gluten free meals, and find flying out of Australia ok with QF, but flying from other countries not so good. flying out of Shanghai on QF last year, i checked when booking in that they had me down for special meal, and yes, but there was nothing on board. not even a rice cracker. i ended up with the diabetic meal.
have had upgrades to business and find the food way above average than economy and there is usually a vegetarian option anyway.
Have upgraded on MAS and Sing, and special meals always excellent.
