I have just booked a trip to Apia on Polynesian blue and i have looked on the virginaust website but could not find the answers to my questions!!

I hope someone on AFF can help me out !!

1- Do Polynesian blue offer paid upgrades to premium at check in ? (if available like Jetstar to star class for a $$$ fee ) If so how much ?
2- I am flying direct SYD API on the way over , however the return is Via AKL . Will my bags be thru checked or will i have to collect in AKL ( flights are in the same booking)
3- Premium econ food/ drinks , on the website says that you get to select off the menu .... I am a big eater ( and drinker) and it is about 6hrs , is this " unlimited food and drink" or just one item and pay for the rest ?
4- I have just joined Velocity , how many points will I earn on a "saver" fare type ? SYD API x/AKL SYD ?

if anyone has other feedback it would be welcome !

Some of the questions you've asked are easily answered on the website, however I'll pick #4 as it's easiest and I'm on my iPhone.

As a 'Red' member, you earn 5 points per dollar spent. The fact it's a saver means nothing right now. In the future though, this could change, so it depends when you're flying.

Thanks samh004
I am flying early July and I noticed in another post that the 5x $ paid will change to a mileage based system from the 1st July ?? I paid AUD960 rtn ... so i wonder if i will be better off under the " new" system ?

That's a rumour.

No.

If booked as a formal connecting flight yes both you and bags are checked through. The code for Apia is APW by the way.

Since you booked a Saver fare and there are not paid upgrades it's a bit academic. But if your main objective is to eat and drink as much as humanly possible for the least dollars spent, your best bet is to stick with the Saver fare and gorge yourself in the food court at SYD after check-in.

There is no set quota on food and drink allowances for PE, but generally there are two service runs down the aisle on this route and PE are served first each time and flight attendants will of course respond to the call bell for requests for more food. I would suggest that if you were to order more than fits on your tray table you might not get everything you ask for. Also Mr Boon crew are trained in responsible service of alcohol.

5 points per dollar

That's a rumour.

If it is a rumour, then why did the following paragraph appear in my May Velocity statement?

As of 1st July, the method by which you earn Points with Pacific Blue and Polynesian Blue will change. From this date, Points will be calculated based on miles and fare class flown.

Thats what I saw as well oz_mark. The only reason I started a new thread on the subject was because of the notice (albeit in very small text ;)) at the bottom of my last statement, and concluded that there was a significant change come July (although I guess we're still waiting on the fine print....)

Thanks Crazydave

I don't think the days of David C Boon (MBE) and his 52 cans between SYD and LHR will ever be matched:p:p

now we have RSA :evil::evil::evil:

Ahh yes, I didn’t see that, or forgot, as I had a long day of flying just over at that stage, and I was the only one answering anyway.

So the answer to the question would be, who knows what it’ll earn, but if it was flown tomorrow it’d earn ~4800 points, and if the levels stay the same after the chance we’ll see if that’s good or bad come July.
