Ok, I'm new to this Velocity thing, but giving it a chance to woo me.

I select a seat at exactly T-24 and 90% of the plane is unavailable for selection. Everything forward of the exits is gone.

Had to settle for 29D :(

How do I select better seats? Is this normal for platinum?

What route is this? Sounds to me like your Platinum status hasn't gone through somewhere. I'd be very surprised if the best you can get is 29D.

What sequence were you? You could have trouble with the platinum line helping you if you've already checked in, anybody at the lounge will get you a better seat.

(FYI, all the real Virgin FF'ers know that checkin opens for Golds/Plats at around T-28hrs)

Phone call quickly got me to 5C. Would have rathered an exit row but no go

Remember it's Qld school holidays right now and the flights are pretty full (at least the ones I've been on this week).

Yeah, same with me the loads have been pretty high.

But that doesn't mean there is more status pax onboard! If anything it means there is less.

Just tried to web check-in for my 9:00pm flight tomorrow night and the first row I can select is row 10.

Used web check-in for my father the other day and the first row I could select for him was row 10.

So much for VA Platinum....

Maybe do what the OP did in post 6 ...

Called Virgin and apparently I am only a Red member! Or at least I was when I made the booking.

She updated the booking and now I have allocated 3D.

Made sure the remainder of my bookings were updated as well.

Ok, so we now know that there may not be an auto-refresh for seat selection once status levels change.

Hey - this sounds like Qantas too.

At least we know there is a workaround.

OT, a similar (but entirely different) issue with me yesterday. Received a combined Velocity Rewards/AMEX invitation letter to apply for Velocity/AMEX platinum card and they said "As a valued silver Velocity member......", I haven't been silver now for about 7 weeks, but this just arrived yesterday. The Velocity Rewards instead of Velocity Frequent Flyer I can understand as simply using up old printing stock, but the silver reference seems to suggest these were printed some time ago or there is no mechanism to update status with Virgin partners.
