I'm going to swallow my pride and actually report a positive JQ experience.

SWMBO was scheduled to fly redeye CNS-AKL the other night and came down ill enough that it warranted an immediate doctors visit (who promptly advised against flying).

We proceeded to the airport just before the 60 min check in cutoff and explained the situation to the JQ chappie who was most helpful....

"no problem at all, if it's for medical reasons you can reschedule no problem, I'll just make a note in the system right now".

I was pleasantly surprised.

Unfortunately, due to the lack of direct flights (or any reasonable availability) this weekend, she had to buy a replacement $600 fare to get on NZ to make a previous commitment, but we'll see what JQ can or can't do.... There's always travel insurance for that.

Good to hear.

And AFF members are so shocked to hear of a positive JQ experience they don't know how to respond!

I don't know what to say. I have flown JQ around 40 times over the last 2 years. Other than a blown engine on JQ29 that caused me to stay in the Mel FLounge for an additional 6 hours (hard duty that), I have never had a problem and have never had an issue with the JQ FAs or ground staff.

Why so many here speak of JQ like they are the devil incarnate is beyond me.

I do recommend JQ to friends and family and have never heard a bad word about their experience.

As always you get what you pay for and JQ is no exception. I do find their *Class to be exceptional value for money and the J SC earn rate is much better than anything QF or other OW airlines can offer. Ok the seats are not business but really Y+, which is about the fare you pay while earning J SCs. I'm happy with JQ business and have found nothing to match the SC earn rate flying between Oz and Bkk.

And I do feel they have picked up on service issues as I have reported.Last 2 flights were positive.Still a nagging doubt re reliability-quite a few flights in and out of MCY delayed or cancelled but even that seems to be improving.

I agree! Flew them last week domestic (CNS-MEL) and a couple of months ago Intl (MEL-SIN). Their Y seats etc are the equal to QF and DJ (for me anyway), and thought that their *Class was about the same as QF or VS Y+ (and think that it should be sold as such, rather than as "Business Class").

I don't think I've ever had a serious delay with them either (touch wood and someone else already said!!!). The FA's seem very friendly & helpful, but sometimes appear a bit overworked!

So no complaints from me! Especially when you consider the $ vs the points/SC earned on Intl up the front.

I've had mostly positive experiences as well. However, I no longer use them as the cancellation rate is quite high out of SIN. I (perhaps sadly) hang out at the airport quite often (once a week/fortnight), and for the vast majority of occassions, there would be "cancelled" entries for at least one JQ/3K flight on the departure screen. For most days, I can take a few hours of delays without complaints, but having to wait till the next day is a no-go for me.

No problems with JQ. Only downside is queuing with bags but, as I rarely travel with carry on (there are two types of bag; carry on and lost!) I check in in the QF lounge and travel accordingly. Traveled star class a few times internationally as well. A good experience, although inexperienced staff. Couldn't complain as a tall traveler I had plenty of leg room and the cabin was only half full.
