Matthew Newton 'throws airline staff into panic' | Travel News | News.com.au
"
HOURS before his damaged hotel room was discovered by hotel staff, Matthew Newton's peculiar behaviour on a Sydney to Melbourne flight is said to have contributed to the flight being delayed after the actor went walkabout.
According to fellow passengers on the Virgin Blue flight, Newton boarded the plane, then exited the aircraft, throwing airline staff into a panic as they tried to locate his numerous items of hand luggage only to have him casually return and take his seat.
Passengers heckled the actor."
Probably time for a spot of Rehab?

Yeah, a prime spanker deserving of being banned... but will he be banned?

Which lovely ground staff (probably smitten with his well known bad-boy image) allowed him on with "four or five carry-on bags".

I think a banning from DJ and some staff re-training is in order.

What a clown!

Since when are you allowed to get off once you've boarded?

This guy is a tool. I wish I was a fly on the wall for the heckling by the passengers haha :D

You can get off if the plane hasn't pushed back form the gate. Once the door is shut and the plane has pushed back your rights are pretty much gone an the pilot has the final say.

As a QF flyer, please do not ban him from DJ I am happy with it the way it is.

Really?

I have just got to try this once....

"Mmm..I feel like a coffee and a stretch of the legs"

I am sure I'll be popular with fellow PAX.

How is this incident qualify him for DYKWIA of the year?

Fact - he boarded the flight and took his seat in the first row.
Fact - he deplaned without apparently telling the crew or them initially noticing (a bit strange on both counts).
Fact - the cabin crew could not locate him and decided to start the process of removing his luggage.
Fact - he came back on board and resumed his seat.

Everything else is conjecture - mostly on the part of the contributors to this thread - and possibly libellous.

He may have received a call from his PA to say he'd forgotten his passport and she was bringing it straight to the gate.

He may have told one of the FA's that he had to pick something up from the gate and they presumed he wouldn't be long, only to panic later when they were ready to close the door and he wasn't back.

This whole story may be a complete time waster and only useful in exposing the perennial whingers on AFF. That is just some conjecture on my part, but I didn't start it!

Sorry we got you on a bad day, Moody

This guy has continually embarrassed himself by his conduct not just in the above story posted by the OP, but on many other occasions. He deserves to get "heckled" be it from disgruntled DJ passengers, or "whingers on AFF".

Hey - I'll put my hand up and say that I never watch A cough of an Affair or the other one, or read Hello/TV Week/Womans Day/Zoo/COC/etc., or get my news from Fox/Sky/CNNNN/etc., but really - what has this guy done to deserve this reaction?

OK - I can use Google. Apparently he was charged and convicted of assaulting his girlfriend, but this was later quashed. He has recently put his hand up and will pay for damage to a hotel room that his girlfriend had booked and he was not actually occupying at the time the damage occurred. There's probably more of this so called reporting but I've seen enough

I'm sorry - I have never met the guy and refuse to condemn him based upon this sort of "evidence". But if you want to then don't let me stop you.

I've just struck 2 posts in a row where you've been spewing negative, I can see why you call yourself Moody!:mrgreen::mrgreen:

But you're more than willing to believe that he didn't actually assault his ex-gf (she had some nasty bruises), nor did he threaten her or her family? And also believe his account that he 'wasn't there' when his room was trashed? And come up with several 'in a nice way' plausible reasons for his mysteriously walking off the plane and going missing.

He was onboard with too many carry-on bags for DJ's rules. One rule for tools , one rule for the rest of us (and no I don't care that he was apparently in Premium Economy).

He may have been high on drugs and stumbled out of the plane. He may have had a horrible hangover and needed somewhere to lie for a few mins before his flight took off.

Just like he may be a tool.

Oh - and DYKWIA does cover quite a few things. Expecting to just wander from a plane after having carry-on baggage stored does fit into that definition. It's basically a "Screw you other passengers, this plane isn't leaving until I think it should".

I wish I knew. We were waiting for around 10 minutes after the last person boarded tonight (I was second to last) before the doors were closed. Plenty of time for me to rush back to the BNE J Lounge and have another drink with you instead of wasting my time sitting in the aircraft. ;)

Why are "so called" celebrities (no more important than a fly on the wall or a coughroach) able to get away with so much more than an orfinary law abiding, honest, hard working, citizen?

I'm another who, having looked at a few posts today, though "Moody" was a fairly apt moniker :-) lighten up pal
Newton Jnr has far too many "incidents". Are they beat up for all they're worth by the media? for sure. Reminds me a little of good old Qantas actually.

Hey - I'm never shy about calling people morons when they deserve it, and of course must cop it in return.

But my beef with this whole worthless story is that there is not a shred of evidence that he said "Don't you know who I am?" or anything similar. I don't know why he left the plane, I don't know how long he left the plane for, I don't know how and why he came back .... and neither does any contributer to this gossip column masquerading as an AFF thread.

So will someone please ask this guy what actually happened and then report back to us here ... otherwise stop wasting space!

To win the DYKWIA one does not need to have said the words, only acted in a way that implies that this is his/her attitude.

Matt Newton has clearly shown over the years that he qualifies for this award and this one particular event has led to him being put forward as the yearly winner.

Now as an actor I quite like the guy, Underbelly 2 and various stage shows I have seen him in, but being a good actor does not imply that he can behave in this manner and hitting women is just plain ugly behaviour.

Travel Guru,

You have saved me a response. I was trying to work out how to say the same thing eloquently :!:
