Possible to waitlist multiple flights?

Just discovered this forum and using airline points.

Looking to book a Saver ticket SYD-LON. It's a popular route- they have 6 combinations daily flights. But all 6 on each of the 2 days I want to fly out on are "wait list". I'm currently wait-listed on a morning flight.

Is it possible to waitlist another flight time? (e.g morning flight of the next day). I only have enough points to cover 1 flight (if that makes any difference).

Cant find much info on their website about wait list and if there are any fees/penalties for not taking up a wait-listed flight that has come through?

Yes you can waitlist multiple flights and waitlisting does not require you to have the requisite points. Its only once they become available that you are required to complete the transaction within the time frame given.

However it is probably frowned upon by frequent fliers as its like going to the supermarket, putting the last 12 cans of baked beans that's on sale for $1/can into your trolley, zooming up and down the aisles for the next 30 minutes, and then at check out decide to only purchase 1.

Thanks for the speedy reply. I've gone ahead and purchased normal fare tickets and have just added another wait-list flight for a Saver ticket. I suppose if neither of my two wait listed flights come through then Im covered with my paid flight.

Does anyone know where on the Singapore Airline site there is info about waitlists? Cant seem to find it.

Nothing specific on Waitlists. Waitlist is an opportunity for a pax to let the airline know they would like to travel on that flight. It is up to them how they manage yield and work through the waitlist. According to IATA.org definition

There are alternate routes that you could investigate to LHR ie

Going SQ via Paris or Manchester. While it is more convenient to land at LHR if people have time and the other ports give direct SQ flight options.

Using the points for a *A redemption via LH which provides more options ie SQ SYD-FRA the LH FRA-LHR.

I've just waitlisted some flights for a Perth to Tokyo trip - where on my KF account does it actually show the flights that are wait listed, and if/when the waitlist clears? I can obviously see the flights in the manage my bookings section, but there's no indication re the waitlist status.

Also, the flights on the way to NRT showed up as available, whereas the flights from NRT-SIN-PER were for wait list - given that the last screen I saw indicated that the flights are now waitlisted, does that mean I will NOT have the original available flights from PER to NRT locked in?

This is the way one of my waitlisted redemptions looks.



The sector with the Waitlist option gives the radio buttons to select your desired flight. When the waitlisted sector becomes available, it changes to Confirmed. You can then choose which flight you want for that sector. You need to do that by the relevant date prior to travel.

The good things about this is that you can lock-in travel without having to pay the taxes or commit the miles until closer to the travel.

If I understand you, as long as you can waitlist and get a confirmed points booking on same day then you dont need to spend teh points or taxes until the waitlist clears or drops off?

That would surely mean you could get a firm booking upto a year out without paying the points or taxes until just before you fly?

That is the way it has been working for me. One issue is depending on when you are booking you have to have alternate flights that same day that have only Waitlist availability.

This also gives you some insight into how much availability can change as the travel dates approach and people firm up/commit their plans in the last few weeks.

I have annual trade shows in Tianjin in March and Shanghai in May which I need to attend.

Dates are set months in advance and never in past years have I had probs securing J Savers to and from both trade shows. This year a little different.

I currently have 3 wait listed bookings on the one day to get me home from Tianjin (ex PEK) and 2 on same day to get me home from PVG.

Spoke to KF today and told them what a pain in the cough it is on new web site not to be able to cancel confirmed or waitlisted bookings online.

Agent told me with waitlisted bookings do not worry - just wait list as many as you want and let them cancel out automatically if they do not confirm and to just ignore any that do show 'Now Available' if you do not want to take them up.

Seems just wrong to me but that is the advice straight from mouth of KF agent.
