So i've got a couple of flights back to the UK coming up in the next few months and I'd like to boost my Velocity Status Credits to ensure I retain my Gold membership. I'm aware that the SC rate for Virgin Atlantic is a little lame - but i've no chance of renewing gold on Virgin Atlantic so seems best.

My question though is will i earn a similar amount of miles in Velocity as i would in Virgin Atlantic? (I know VA gives 100% bonus for Gold to Velocity's 75% but can't find out how the total miles earnt would compare)

Thanks in advance
A

Its 10555 miles LHR to SYD, but I dont believe there is any bonus earn with status!

Oh ok - thanks

My flight in Jan is a one way L so looks like i'll only get 5283 miles with Velocity vs. 21130 with Flying Club (10565 standard plus 10565 bonus for Gold)

My Easter flight is a return X so would get me 5283 with Velocity or 21130 with Flying Club (10565 standard plus 10565 bonus for Gold)

Am i right in saying i will get 50 SC per leg, so 150 SC if I post to Velocity - but at the cost of 31695 miles

I've also got a return from London to Sydney with Singapore in Feb - do we yet know what that will give me in velocity vs. flying club? (Assume it'll be 50 SC

Comparing miles between programs can be hard, and also comes down to the value of redemptions, VS miles are easily earned from car hires at 1000 a rental, but using them is harder compared to Velocity where 6900 points + cash will get you a J flight anywhere in Australia if booked in the next month.

Fair point

i've got c. 100k miles in membership rewards and 50k in flying club so could either pool them all in to Virgin Atlantic or split across velocity and flying club - i guess hanging on to Gold with Velocity is probably going to be more use to me as I'm now based in Australia and at most would fly home once a year. Just seems a shame to turn down 30k points :(

One last question - my girlfriend pools points/sc's to me - will the partner (Virgin Atlantic) ones pool to me also? if so, will definitely do hers as she just has red with virgin atlantic

Your family pooling should work with no issues in the context quoted. Just dont split up, the pooling effect could get nasty

Ha - no worries - she only flies with me, so she benefits from me being (and hopefully keeping) Gold :)

LOL Markis, yes i have actually met a married couple who split and had 2-3 million pooled points and the ex-wife wanted the other 50% lol.
