I was surprised to receive this email from PR. Is the membership card really worth the US10? I'm assuming I just plug the number into my booking each time via the website.

We are pleased to inform you that you have met 5,000 Miles and upon payment of USD10* (or local currency equivalent) processing fee at the Mabuhay Miles Service Center or at any PAL / PAL Express Ticket Office, your membership card shall be mailed to your preferred mailing address. It should reach you in 4-6 weeks time.

That made me laugh - typical Filipino style, same as the restaurant loyalty cards here, they want you to pay to join their loyalty programs... Baliw!

even QF want you to pay to join their loyalty program... I know a few non-AFF'ers who have paid the $80 odd dollar fee. PR are doing better than QF here by only charging $10

But the $10 isn't to join the program it's only to receive a physical card.

Maybe it just needs to be worded better:

As you are already a member and using your Mabuhay Miles membership you are familiar with the flight benefits. Did you know you can expand your membership by carrying this collectors edition ($10) membership card enabling 20% discounts at over 1,000 Jollibee outlets.

For the record I'm not sure if the card does provide any benefits, it could just be better worded.

yum - Jollibee.
