I currently do not have an assigned seat and as QF do not allow online check in I am keen to avoid the mad scramble for the line up to get a decent (ideally I want to avoid the middle of the 4 seats). Any idea how to get a pre-assigned seat without ringing QF?

You can send them a request/feedback via the QF website. Search and click on the 'existing booking' tab and type in a brief request but do note that certain seats are pre-blocked if you do not have status or are already pre-allocated.

Use Checkmytrip to have a look at the seatmaps as a reference before making any seat requests.

I cant seem to find the seatmaps on check my trip which is rather unfortunate. What am I missing?

Look at "manage your booking" on www.qantas.com
Link to QF seat maps Fly - Onboard

QF allocate about 30% (~ 50%?) of seats at reservation, except for those with status. Those with status get seat allocation when they book a flight. The balance are allocated about 1 day before flight

Phone QF and try for a seat allocation

I just clicked on the request an aisle seat button and it now has me down at requesting a seat in row 47 or 57? It did it automatically?

It will do that. Pick an aisle seat somewhere for you.

Rightio. I guess 47C is the best I am going to do as I am only Silver. Although it does irk me that people in the exit row recline all the way back even though they have tons of leg room!

If you can identify a better seat, you can ring up and try to get moved there.

This is strange. I had 47C but now have nothing. I seem to have lost an allocation. Hmm...

Be polite and ask them if they wouldn't mind returning their seat back to upright position. I have noticed less passengers in exit rows reclining ever since becoming Platinum a few years ago and requestng exit rows on international flights.

From memory the new slimline shell WHY seats on the A380 do not recline back but instead slide back and forward within the shell.

And why on earth should they? There's one thing asking during a meal service but another thing altogether for the rest of the flight

The new QF A388 why seats do recline back toward the seat behind somewhat, but not as much as those on other QF aircraft.

As PS you have access to all premium seats. It's really simple to call Qantas and request a better seat.

Note that www.qantas.com/yourbooking does not always show seat pre-allocation. To Get your seat allocation find your Qantas booking reference and plug it into www.checkmytrip.com along with your surname.

Once 'logged' into C/M/T with your booking information showing look to the bottom of the "your flight selection" box for

view details click to see additional information including price, payment and flight special requests

Click the "
expand.gif
view details" and the window will expand and you should see any seat pre-selection there. If you do see a seat number, click that/those and you may get a seat map.

SG can preselect from most seats except exit rows.

WP can request that a request be made to QF "seating" for an exit seat to be preallocated.

Thanks Serfty. I did have a seat allocated (and confirmed) as per CMT but there is now no seat allocated at all. I have requested an upgrade - could this have something to do with it?

When is the flight?

If in the next day or so, the your upgrade may have come through.

If longer than that, then no.

As a PS you are not normally subject to the normal loading limits and generally should be able to request seat pre-allocation up until at least 4 days before the flight.

Flight is on Wednesday (uk time).

It does seem a little strange as the seat was confirmed on CMT and then vanished. The seat on the return leg has remained though. The Flight is looking rather full in whY - was showing 0's in most of the categories until tonight when a few 1's have popped up.

I would be happy if the op-up me instead of taking the points if they need to clear room at the back  - although as a silver i doubt that is happening.

Maybe there's a bug in the online system that permits Elite Allocation within the general 80(?) hours limit.

You were assigned a seat, then it was wiped. Maybe it was a manual sweep.

In any case you will be in front of any op-ups should WHY be sold out but not J ...

Not all people who are able to pre-allocate exit rows are inconsiderate....

It is , imo, an unreasonable request.
That is quite OK as you are entitled to your opinion. I do not think it is an unreasonable request to ask or even expect a person in an exit row not to recline if it causes discomfort to the person behind.

I believe the majority of people in exit rows, at least on my flights, do not recline. I for one do not recline when in an exit row, actually do not recline unless I am forced by person in front, and I know many other people who feel the same.
