can anyone please help me find an insurance company that will cover for my husband who has renal failure and requires peritoneal dialysis. when I check insurance companies they all wont cover his condidtion, and one company even wants $100 to do a medical assessment with no guarantees. His condition is well controlled, but he does require dialysis. we are travelling to UK (our home country) but are worried about the between here and there travel.
any help would be greatly appreciated

Have you looked at the Kidney Health Australia website?

Good luck and it's great to see that your husband's condition does not stop him from travelling.

You could also give Iselect a call & tell them your requirements & they will do the comparisons for you as they do travel insurance as well as a number of other things like private health cover, broadband & mobile plans etc.

Syjul, I've just arranged travel insurance for my husband who had a heart attack in 2005 so I wanted cover for that pre-existing condition. Tried Covermore as advised elsewhere (sorry can't recall which thread) but no joy ditto a number of other companies. Finally a travel agent friend put me onto a company she deals with - CHI Travel. We needed to get his Dr to complete a medical report, faxed it to the company, answer next business day was a yes. A Good turnaround. Great result. The premium (Mods am I allowed to say this?) with the health loading is around $650 for three and a half weeks which is full cover, baggage etc,. I thought it was very reasonable indeed. Incidentally I note that the Underwriter is Allianz who also underwrite a number of other travel policies on the market but the ones I looked at knocked me back on the pre existing - seems strange to me.

re: Renal failure

Just wondering if you had any luck with travel insurance. My husband is in the same position requiring PD & we are going on a cruise. Everywhere you read says you must be covered for pre-existing conditions but every company does seem to exclude renal failure.

Looks like we may have to go without renal being covered & just hope for the best. He doesnt seem to have problems here, but a bit concerned if something did go wrong.

Maujune, see my respone above and try your travwel agent for that cover we got. Quite easy to arrange, ask your TA to email you the form and take to your doc to complete. We faxed it off and had a couple of queries back. Cover arranged within a couple of days, accepting the pre existing condition, and for what I thought was a reasonable. sum. From memory about $3-400 for both of us for three and a half weeks. I did quite a bit of looking around and this was by far the best quote as well. Good luck
PS In my opinion you are really taking a huge risk to even contemplate travelling without cover. I cannot emphasise enough that you exhaust every avenue. The financial consequences could be horrible.

Yes I think the premium is reasonable given the piece of mind having the cover creates
