I wanted to host a Do on the Gold Coast around Australia Day, have a BBQ, open some champagne, be social, perhaps play golf (I live on RACV Royal Pines Resort), however wasn’t sure who would be free when in January, so time for a poll.

I was initially thinking of Saturday 22nd January, but am including options either side of that date too, so two pre-Australia Day and one post-Australia Day.

Anyone interested?

I could be persuaded :)

The 29th could be a problem for some with the 'wake' (or not - I would need to fly and could tie it in with the wake, but wouldn't be using anytime access in that case :D).

Anyway, all dates are good for me.

I like the idea.

Unfortunately, I'm going to be out of the country on all of these weekends, except for 15 Jan.

22 January is the only weekend that works for me.

15 Jan is SIN DO on FT, booked the flights already.

29 Jan is the Qantas wake so going to Melbourne via Sydney that weekend, when I book some flights on Virgin Blue and Jetstar for the F lounge that is.

I'm interested (and thanks for the initiative Sam), but there are a number of things (including the SIN do that the Bear is attending, which I may attend) that cloud matters around that time...a watching brief for me at this stage, until my plans for Jan/Feb (including the W word - work ) are a little better known

Oz day has me in NZ prior to heading to the USA;

One of the earlier weekends may be possible; however for flights, Oz based airlines tend to put hier fares up during that period.

(although I may get availability on the AMEX DJ free flight...)

Looks like I perhaps should have considered a date a little further away from the summer holiday period  my bad.

Little awkward time wise for me. Likely be doing the SIN DO, as mentioned by Bundy Bear and Tuapekestar, which rules that weekend out, and I will likely be staying up that way for a little while.

No bads looking from here Sam. :) In fact a good idea, and now it's just a matter of the timing (and from past experience, no matter what time/date it is, it aint going to suit everyone - just the way it goes)

Never give up Sam - persist !!

Haha I will. Just underestimated the period. I’ll continue to research appropriate times, because I’m quite keen to host a BBQ, play some golf, and drink some bubbly :p

Sounds like a good idea. Put me down as interested if I still have a job in Brisbane at the time.

Based on current schedule the only weekend that could work for me is 22 January.

Isn't it 1 long weekend less than normal and the same number as this year due to Anzac Day falling on Easter Monday?

And Australia Day being on a Wednesday does not help, that leaves us with two long weekends + Easter (excluding Xmas/New Year), of which one is the Monday after Easter in QLD (must remember to put in a leave app for that week and make it a decent break).

Anyway, all dates are good for me.

29th is now out - I may be in Wellington :)

I'd be very surprised if anything comes up on the 15th (we basically shutdown from December 15th to January 15th) and 22nd should be fine as well.

Some of the southern states have a long weekend in March. Might be a good weekend for a trek somewhere:!:
