Received an email from MB introducing their new preferred partnership with SQ KF. MB Gold and above can get KF Silver after two flights. Not a huge benefit but a start for anyone considering pursuing status with SQ anyway.

Funny thing is, I got my current MB Gold off the United MP Platinum status match…😁

Actually, it would appear the Silver status is automatic and the Fastrack is for KF Gold (A*G) after 4x flights! Not to be sniffed at.

This is the email back from KF. MB says Silver after 2x SQ flights. KF says Silver already and Gold after 4x 🤷‍♂️

Dear SYD,

WE’VE RECEIVED YOUR REGISTRATION TO STATUS MATCH TO KRISFLYER ELITE SILVER STATUS

Your request to status match to KrisFlyer Elite Silver tier via the KrisFlyer and Marriott Bonvoy preferred partnership programme is successful! You will receive an email welcoming you to your upgraded membership tier within the week.
To receive an accelerated upgrade to KrisFlyer Elite Gold status, simply fly 4 eligible Singapore Airlines flights within 6 months starting today. We look forward to welcoming you onboard our flights soon.

I’ll report back if my KF account turns Silver automatically.

Then decide if I do a quick/cheap SQ SR to get A*G - which probably will last thru 2024 and to the end of 2025?

SQ status is rolling 12 months I think.

Well, that’s no fun but there’s a hack that can get 15 mths A*G. QF -> UA MP (3 mths) -> MB Gold -> KF Silver -> KF Gold (do the SQ flights during and at the end of the UA SM period while you have *G!

Alas, my UA Premier Platinum card will time out at the end of this month…

I got the same email and applied because its there. Probably not long term possible for me to hold KF status. Got my MB Gold from my Amex and haven't stayed in a MB property yet.

It appears that 3 months silver status is automatic, 2 SQ flights extends silver status to 12 months, and 4 SQ flights within 6 months gets you gold.

It looks like there are two different offers. One for Marriott Gold Elite members, and one for Marriott Platinum/Titanium/Ambassador.

  • Marriott Gold members can upgrade to KrisFlyer Silver status for 12 months by taking at least 2 SQ flights within six months of linking accounts
  • Marriott Platinum, Titanium & Ambassador members get complimentary KrisFlyer Silver status for 12 months, and can upgrade to KrisFlyer Gold for 12 months by taking at least 4 SQ flights within six months of linking accounts

Yes, pretty sure this morning that the lookup table (Marriott status / KF status) at the link in post #1 only had the same deal for Gold right up. But it seems to be working properly now.

However, what Marriott sent me and what KF sent me after the match don’t match up.

Nothing further from KF for me so far but if it’s a max of Silver for Marriott Gold, then the UA status match hack was too good to be true!

Found this in the T&Cs:

For purposes of these Preferred Partnership Rules, award tickets and codeshare flights are not considered to be Qualifying Flights.

In that case, not much use to me.

Have matched the other way to Bonvoy Gold. Don’t think there are any substantial benefits other than late checkout and maybe a room upgrade if available but that will do. Got KF Gold from the credit card points transfer promo a couple of years ago, and that expires in February. Maybe I’ll be able to match back again to Silver or Gold. :p

I was thinking of using the UA partnership instead but it looks like the ceiling is Marriott Bonvoy Gold with no fast track to Platinum.

I know Marriott has status challenges for Bonvoy Gold Members to Platinum so I think that would be easier. 16 nights in 3 months. Does require some previous activity for that though.

Or just get the US Bonvoy Brilliant Amex...

So just received an email from KF stating that the email quoted above was an error and I can get Silver after 2x flights.

Nothing re 4x for Gold.

Pass.

There is a Platinum challenge available under this partnership - KrisFlyer gold and above get offered a 10 nights in 6 months challenge, which is much more generous than the usual challenge.

Unclear if Bonvoy award or cash and points nights count though: Marriott Bonvoy® and KrisFlyer Preferred Partnership

Necrobumping this one and looking at the conditions closely the Platinum Status Challenge with Krisflyer does beat the usual one (10 nights in 6 months vs 16 nights in just less than 4 months). Ofc MB Platinum is where we really start to feel the benefits (Gold is very easy to get these days).

We all know the path to Krisflyer Gold then... and it is easy in Australia.

How is flying 500 status credits with VA ever easy? 😂 🔫

I'm thinking to make use of the Bonvoy Plat accelerator with an extended Homes & Villa stay, but am having trouble working out whether it would be meet the requirements of the accelerator:

Subject to clauses 5 to 8 of this Part E, after receiving Marriott Bonvoy Gold Elite membership status (or for Marriott Bonvoy Members with existing Marriott Bonvoy Gold Elite membership status and who are Solitaire PPS Club, PPS Club, or KrisFlyerElite Gold Members), such Joint Member will be eligible to be further upgraded to Marriott Bonvoy Platinum Elite membership status by staying ten (10) Qualifying Nights at Participating Properties within six (6) months following the date of registration in the Preferred Partnership Program (“Marriott Bonvoy Platinum Accelerator Challenge”).

'Qualifying Night' is defined in the KrisFlyer/Bonvoy terms as:

For purposes of these Preferred Partnership Rules, a “Qualifying Night” shall mean a night as part of a stay at a Participating Property where the Joint Member pays a Qualifying Rate, provides the Joint Member’s Marriott Bonvoy Account number upon booking, at check-in or before checkout, and personally stays in the reserved guest room. A “Qualifying Rate” is the rate a Marriott Bonvoy Member pays for a stay in a guest room at a Participating Property which qualifies to earn Points or Miles (as defined in the Marriott Bonvoy Program Rules). Qualifying Rates include most business and leisure rates, such as rates found on Marriott.com without an application of a discount code, standard and premium retail rates, advanced purchase rates, corporate negotiated rates, and national/regional/local government rates. Award Redemption Stays, including Cash + Points Awards, Free Night Awards, or a Points redemption (as each such term is defined under the Marriott Bonvoy Program Rules), are not eligible as Qualifying Nights under the Preferred Partnership Program.

Homes & Villas doesn't seem to be explicitly ruled out. I don't suppose anyone has any first hand experience?

Actually taking the normal Platinum status challenge now and I was wondering about Marriott Homes & Villas. It doesn't appear to count. Was told they were part of the 'promotional nights' but not part of the qualifying nights. So it would go a way towards your next Tier but wont count in the challenge. Wish it was the case though.

Has to be a paid rate (a special rate is fine as well) and not a reward rate.

Could be different for the Krisflyer one.

I had seen that mentioned on the Homes & Villas FAQ too:

How many Elite Night Credits do members earn for booking with Homes & Villas by Marriott Bonvoy?

For each night that is stayed with Homes & Villas by Marriott Bonvoy, members will earn 1 Elite Night Credit toward their account based on the same criteria as Marriott’s long stay hotel brands.
  • Promotional nights count toward annual elite status
  • Promotional nights do not count toward lifetime status
  • Homes & Villas by Marriott Bonvoy Elite Night Credits are posted as Bonus Nights/Promotional, on the Marriott Bonvoy account.

But apparently a Marriott rep on FT has confirmed the nights DO count to lifetime status, which would suggest they're not posting as promotional...

Would definitely be a game changer especially if we go to the regional parts of Australia with Airbnb like properties. Only one way to find out…

I'm not sure if the T&Cs have changed in the last 9 months but I did a platinum status challenge last year and Homes and Villas stays did not count. See excerpt from email received from Marriott. 20240324_070605.jpg
