Our family wanting to fly air nz to Vancouver in Jan - thinking if upgrading to premium economy from Auckland to Vancouver. Should we fly direct on 777-200 and get "old" product - or go via LAX to experience newer premium economy product on 777-300?? Obviously takes longer if we go via LAX and then have to fly normal economy LAX - Vancouver. Thanks

I think it will depend how amenable your family is to the transit through LAX and the extra flight to Vancouver?

I flew AKL-LAX (and return) on the 777-300 in PE and found the 'Spaceseat' very comfortable for sitting/eating/watching video, and quite reasonable for sleeping. I haven't flown the 777-200 in PE, so can't comment. You may want to look at the following links to give you a comparison:

Thanks! It seems some people love the spaceseats and others hate them. Given that we book a group of 5 seats we should be happy in the older style and then can bypass a US stop.

IMO, the 772 PE seat is narrow - it's still 9 across, just like economy on the aircraft; hoever the pitch is good.

The 'space seats' are not that easy to sleep with - the tilt feature is just weird.

I'd personally go for the 772 ...

FWIW, the 744 PE seats, especially downstairs are the best of the three.
