I didn't know before that you can purchase PE on flights to Bali with DJ.

Is this new?

Must admit I hadnt noticed before, but clicking on the Prem Y fare conds indicates its avail on Aust Dom services and Bali flights.
The question is who would be stupid enough to pay for it
consider paying the lowest fare + $45 gets you "blue Zone" seating for about $400 each way cheaper than PY. No lounge access either...the differnence in the 2 options would cover the cost of accom for the trip
Another example of Blue Zone canibalising the "prem product"
With Tiering well established in Velocity the Blue Zones should be offered
to high tier customers on non PY fares

Premium Econ also gets you:
  • 2 abreast seating
  • IFE
  • food & beverage
  • 32kg checked baggage (could be handy for holiday destination for sports equipment or heavy packers) which could make a significant difference on excess baggage fees on cheapest fares
  • flexibility of fare conditions
  • refundable
  • Velocity points/status
  • First off the plane - front of queue for passport control and luggage carousel stake-out
  • as you mentioned Lounge isn't presently offered on international flights and at present priority check-in doesn't apply either
On the one hand you are saying people should pay for Blue Zone - that it obviously has a value, but then you say it should just be given to tiered members? Slipperly slope - do we just then give food, booze and IFE to all tiered members too?

Dave ,sorry I wasnt clear .I actually think you'd get better take up of PY if the Bluezone wasnt offerred at all and those seats were set aside/allocated to high tier velocity members . The Bluezone was the right thing to offer when U didnt have a premium product buts its time has passed .I know a couple of mates who fly back and forth from PER to the eastcoast and they would willingly pay for PY if they werent certain of a Blue Zone seat.
Excluding the dubious benefit of getting to customs first out of yr aircraft of the items mentioned above only the 2 abreast seating cannot be factored into yr purchase price and still come out well ahead of PY by "bundling" in the ecy cabin. The savings in fares far outweigh any points bonus forgone.
Thats purely my view and could contribute to the poor PY loads I have witnessed on my journeys on DJ (and yes they were at business times on buisness routes when the cabin should have been full). I just think the current strategy is making it too easy avoid trading up higher fare.
ps I certainly dont advocate giving high tier punters in yr Y cabin free food and drink as it adds complexity and cost to the product
cheers

Thanks Standby. See your point now, but not sure I totally agree. We will give the new PY with food/booze/IFE time to get established in the market and then review. Frankly I thought the initial proposition (wtihout the extras) was a waste and it has made it harder to position/sell the product now that it is as it should have always been. Will take a little time.

I would be pretty sure that there is a market for it, just as there is a market for Jetstar's Starclass where it is offered (SYD/MEL-DPS?)
