I apologise if there is a thread for this already but could not find one on a search. Today I upgraded a flexi fare for a trip from Brisbane to Rockhampton next week using points. It was an achievement with the person in the call centre not even knowing what I was talking about. So eventually the fare was upgraded. I logged in to select my seat (which it says I am not eligible to do) I found that the fare class had been changed. Usually when I have upgraded in the past it is changed to Premium Economy and have earned status credits at that rate. This time it now says it is a fare class of Velocity Reward with all of the conditions that apply to that fare type. I rang the call centre and they its right and that the points and status credits will post at the flexi rate though I have my doubts. Have I just been lucky in the past and the fare class should have always been Velocity Reward?

Isn't a points upgrade just a new thing?

I've previously upgraded with CC over the phone and that regens as a PE flight (can't remember the fare bucket....Q seems to ring a bell) and SCs and points were always awarded as PE.

I have upgraded from a Flexi to PE and it shows exactley the same on my itinerary as a Velocity Reward but I can asure you I travelled in 1A, the reservation system that the airport sees will have you in Premium, if you are a Platinum memeber I know they pre asign if you ask.

Thanks for your response, unfortunately I am only a Silver Member though I would have thought this would still allow me to select a seat even on a fare they have changed to A Velocity Award. Yesterday when it was a Flexi fare I was able to allocate myself a seat in economy. One question that still remains for me and that is lounge access, on previous occasions when I upgraded and the booking fare class was changed to Premium Economy it was clear that lounge access was included (this was the case on my last flight on Monday to Townsville). Even when I have previously done a straight reward booking in Premium Economy this showed in the fare condition - when I examine the conditions for this fare it reads like a standard Economy (not Premium) redemption.

You should get lounge access as the boarding passes state that passengers in Business, Premium, Platinum or Gold Frequent Flyers are welcome to use the lounge. Also the fare rules allow lounge access, the only thing I am aware of that is different is that the cancellation conditions of your flexi fare apply but everything else is included. The only thing I did get was points are now credited to the original fare class and not like it was previously at the PE class ie BNE -ROK is 20SC with Flexi but 40SC in premium you will get 20SC.
