Friday two weeks ago we were planning a staff trip for 5 people to Cairns, QF deals ex-Brisbane were about $146 each way. Three days later on the Monday when we went to book, the best fares on any day were about $250 each leg and blew our budget for the trip.

Check the VB website we were able to get $139 fares and did so.

6 days later today, as a matter of interest I checked the QF website for an additional person and the Qantas sale fares have reappeared. I would have preferred for everyone to fly Qantas and rack up points on my Qantas Amex.

I'm thinking conspiracy...do Qantas offer lower fares for sale on weekends then ramp them up during the week?

Most probably it was just a pricing review and VB didn't follow QF lead.

No conspiracy; nor is such a "ramp-up" really likely.

Qantas had a sale that finished last Monday. By Wednesday another sale was invoked.

Whether you 'fell' between these sales or allocated O class was exhausted on Monday with more being loaded by QF yield management later in the week I know not.

Yep, pretty normal.
But its always a difficult decision to hold off on booking in case the alternative also disappears. Then you call your friendly TA and ask for the booking and hold it please ;)
