I will be flying LAS to LAX (AA) connecting to BNE and DRW (QF).

As a gold member, just wondering how the baggage system works given I'm starting my flight on a different airline. I don't really care if I get priority baggage on the AA flight, given that I won't be picking it up at LAX, it will be checked through to BNE.

It is booked on a QF codeshare, so does this mean they will have the apprioriate tags to attatch or the AA version? Or will I have to wait like the other 400 pax to get my bags?

On a side note, I've noticed I've been given Business tags on all my flights in the past few months. I've also noticed you do get some sort of priority with these (as opposed to the priority tags). I used to get the priority tags as gold, but I fly a lot from DRW and it wouldn't surprise me if they were doing things differently (for the worse).

If you are QF Gold you should get priority tags on all flights you fly with OW, although this can vary quite a bit. So they should tags your bags from the outset with a Priority tag.

Unfortunately this doesn't mean that your bags will br treated any differently in many cases.

Priority baggage tagging/handling and increased baggage allowances are NOT published OneWorld status benefits. So there is not requirement for AA to tag your bags with priority tags. If you really want to ensure they are tagged for priority delivery after the QF flight to BNE, then you need to have the LAS agent tag it to LAX and collect there, cart over to TBIT and check in with Qantas.

Note also that a QF codeshare also does not qualify for QF's FF baggage policies.

However, in my experience, most AA check-in agents will add a OneWorld tag to the baggage and will add an AA Priority tag (maybe this is due to all my AA domestic travel being in F). But my experience arriving in BNE following an AA connection is that it is really hit and miss as to whether the bag will be handled with priority or now.

I would not expect the LAS agent to have QF priority tags. You could ask nicely and they may add an AA priority tag for you, but there is no guarantee that QF will honour the AA tag.

Yes, exactly. This is just another of QF's "smoke and mirrors" service to frequent flyers. ;)

QF's priority baggage handling policy for FF status only applies to QF marketed and operated flights. It does not apply to other OneWorld flights not operated and marketed by QF. This also applies to increased baggage allowances. No smoke and mirrors on this one as far as I can see.

This is a significant difference between OneWorld and Star Alliance member benefits.

I was talking about QF marketed and operated flights. My experience on both international and domestic flights with QF is that priority baggage tags are not worth the paper they are printed on. About all they do is make you look silly when your bag arrives on the belt amongst all the other non-tagged bags. :-|

You will not get priority handling tags on your luggage.

I agree that QF's own handling is hit and miss. But the OP's question was about a QF Codeshare LAS-LAX connecting to QF LAX-BNE. The codeshare does not qualify for QF's priority baggage FF benefit.

For reference the oneworld site is prety clear on the benefits of status for OW members. It is a pretty short list ;)
And in my experience, OneWorld airlines are pretty consistent at applying these benefits.
