I recently signed up to PC because I seem to be staying at a lot of Holiday Inns. So figured why not, and that also stops the reservation people pestering me every time I ring up to book a room. I am also a Qantas FF member.

Couple of questions for a PC newcommer.

When staying at a hotel that is both a Qantas and PC partner, can you only claims points for one or the other?

If so, is there any theory behind which program is the smarter option to put ones points towards?

Are PC rewards worth saving up points for PC redemptions, or is it better to wack them straight into my QFF (or other airline FF program)?

Is PC more about getting the elite status, which has benefits like room upgrades and the like?

Another question - I stayed at a different participating hotel a month or so ago and claimed QFF points on that. I just saw it's a PC partner as well. Can you claim PC nights (towards elite status) afterwards, even after I've got the points for QFF? if I claim the PC stay with PC, will they then strip the points from my QFF account? Confused on this one...

Thanks.

To try and answer..

Its one or the other, i keep my points with PC as i think most people do.
the 5000 points a night 'points breaks' are great value. The other nights less so but sometimes a lot better than cash.

Its easy to make status and make lots of points from there bonus programs (check out the sticky thread about the 2008 promotions).

Status is useful :)

Something comfused me abotu what you said, i understood to clain QFF points you needed to be a PC member, and to sweep your points from PC to QFF, so i assume this is how you have it setup now ?

If a hotel is a QF Partner as well as being part of the IHG, then you have to choose which you wish to collect your points to for that stay

If collecting to PC, then I personally think that collecting PC points rather than airline miles is a far better choice

In PC it is one or the other, and I am sure they keep track of things to stop the double dip. You can later convert PC points to QFF points should you feel the need (not sure if there is a hit on doing it later versus doing at the point of stay - would need to have a look at the rates). I doubt they would strip the points from QFF, more they would deny your claim for points.

The way the program is setup, it is much easier to get status through points.

Well, before I joined PC and i stayed at a Holiday inn, I simply faxed my hotel invoice to QFF and they credited me the FF points.

I've now realised that after I joined PC, I stayed at a crowne plaza hotel which i claimed the QFF points on (like above), independant of PC. But since I now realise crowne plaza is PC - Can I get the 5 nights credit towards PC gold status, even though I've already claimed the QFF points separately (I havent got the crowne plaza stay on my PC account yet)?

(Golly thats confusing to even write haha)

If you have claimed QFF points directly , then you cannot also claim PC points
