Only an annual flyer and, can't see an obvious answer in my searches of the forum....

Want to book 2 returns Syd-Bkk for next month.
One return I want to pay with my QFF pts, however my wife wants to save her points and pay cash (cc).
To ensure we fly together !!!
-Do I make the 2 bookings through my QFF a/c which has sufficient points+ for one ticket, and the system will ask for the balance in cash OR
-Book online for her and through QFF a/c for me and hope the same flights are available OR
-Book online for both, is there the facility for differing payt methods for each ticket.

Guess I could do a dummy run to see how its handled ? but thought I would get a better advice from experienced travelers.

Basically there is no really way to book an award flight and a paid flight together. You could of course, try an any seat award but you are basically going to need points for 2 classic awards. I'm confused about the reasoning of paying for one ticket to make sue that you can both get on the same flight. Why not just try for 2 award flights to see if that is available? If 2 award seats are available then there is no risk of not getting on the same flight. If one account doesn't have enough points then it is a simple matter to transfer points from one account to the other, so that there are enough points.

The best thing to do is the dummy bookings and see what is available. If you are still going done the separate payment points and cash for each flight then once you have found what is available and decided on the flights you want. Book the points flight first because you can always pay cash to get a fare, just that you might have to pay more. Whereas once the award flight is gone it's gone.

Once you have the 2 separate bookings then you ring Qantas and have them linked.

Otherwise, you could ring qantas and see if they can book the fares for you. But you'll have to pay extra fees for using the phone booking system

Tks medhead, might have been how I worded my ramble...don't want to "pay for one ticket to ensure getting on the same flight", but rather, how to process with different payment methods and get on the same flight.

Ohh, ok. Well find what is available with dummy bookings, decide on the flights and then book the award flights first followed by the paid flight shortly after. then ring qantas to link the bookings.

Otherwise, once you know what flights you want, ring qantas and see if they can booking them together as one booking. But I'm sure there would be fees involved for that, 2500 points for an award flight I think and I guess also a cash surcharge for the paid flight.

Many thanks medhead, shall try a dummy run and select the points ticket first then switch to the cash one as you suggest then phone and hopefully link.

It's not possible to put 2 tickets of different fare types on the one booking/pnr.

What you might want to consider is having a travel agent hold the paid ticket (most agents will hold it temporarily for you if you explain why), book the f/f ticket and then pay and ticket the other one.

The agent will then be able to TCP the bookings together and you should be seated together.

Thanks again TG and medhead,
I did the "bleeding obvious" and phoned QFF, they confirmed can do the 2 separate bookings on line (Pts ticket first) and then phone them and they will link the 2.
We aren't "frequent" flyers, but the knowledge on this site is great when a "what if" hits the grey matter.
Cheers

No worries. Good thing that TG came through with some professional guidance rather than my amateur trial and error method.

Sometimes it isn't all that obvious to ring qantas either, I've booked separate points and paid fligts and it never occures to me to ring them. Only because of the great advice here do I even know about linking bookings and all that.
