Hi all,

Does Purchase insurance cover lost Gift cards?
Lost it either in a glove box of loan car from repairer or getting it to house.
Is there an excess?

Purchase security insurance policy.
Purchase security insurance is a benefit available to
Westpac cardholders. This cover provides four months of
complimentary insurance against loss, theft, or accidental
damage over a wide range of new personal goods purchased
anywhere in the world, provided the entire purchase is charged
to the cardholder’s eligible credit card account.
This insurance provides automatic protection for personal
goods when their purchase is charged to an eligible credit card
account unless the personal goods and/or claims are excluded
by the definitions, Terms and Conditions, or exclusions, or the
cardholder fails to comply with the claims procedures.

The definition of Personal Items:

“personal good(s)” includes all new personal property acquired
for personal domestic or household use, but does not include:
■ items acquired for the purpose of re-supply/re-sale; or
■ items acquired for transformation in a business; or
■ items purchased in a business name; or
■ business owned or business related items; or
■ animals or plant life; or
■ computer software or non tangible items; or
■ cash, bullion, negotiable instruments, trading cards,
lottery tickets or other gambling related items, tickets of
any description, travellers cheques, or collections such as
stamps, coins and cards; or
■ consumable or perishable items (including but not limited to
food, drugs, fuel or oil); or
■ boats, automobiles, motorboats, airplanes or any other
motorised vehicles and their integral parts and installed
accessories; or
■ second-hand items, including antiques; or
■ items of contraband; or
■ real estate and movable fixtures or fittings (including but not
limited to dish washers and fixed air conditioners) which are, or
are intended to form part of any home or real estate; or
■ items acquired for a purchase price exceeding A$10,000

The T&Cs don't explicitly mention gift cards but they are similar to the items in bold.

Sounds like a call to the insurer. Please let us know how you get on?

Is it possible for the gift card issuer could cancel it and reissue?

Insurer is a call 8am tomorrow.
Tried to cancel via phone, won't do it, even though they said it has not been used!
Went to shop I purchased with receipt and no help either.
So await call tomorrow and then maybe off to ACA\Today tonight or ACCC to get my money back
Yes yes I have read T&C on the card but just plain wrong in this day and age...when not used and everything is a press of a key on a keyboard to lock and reissue!

Gift cards are normally considered "like" cash or negotiable instruments, etc so I would expect they would be excluded from the insurance cover

Why to ACA/TT? You lost it... And it is effectively cash.

You seem intent on claiming on insurance policies for everything you can. Don't ruin it for the rest of us (as I think back to your TID posts about the lost phone).

The point is yes I lost it, It still has value as it has not been used because the gift card people can track it(know it has not been used) as I provided all the "technical" info to stop it being used!
Therefore "technically" it is not LOST, but requires one click on a keyboard to deactivate and return my money!
Not after necessary insurance people, but gift card people.
Oh and the fact that some wizard\hot shot lawyer does not state GIFT card in exclusion..."close" aint close enough in the court of law....correct?
Did you read the entire thread on TID?
Yes I lost but not as much.......

Most Gift Card T&Cs state that cards will not be replaced if lost/stolen ie are treated the same as physical cash eg for ANZ Gift Cards "Lost or stolen Cards will not be replaced"

Don't have to venue further.
Card found in glove box and being returned....
Still someone else can investigate for future reference?
