There's a current promotion to buy with BA Avios with 50% bonus points. My account was created in 2015, listing down a European country as home address but not able to purchase. Anyone being able to purchase?

If you have a zero balance, that might be the problem.

Does yours have balance and able to make a purchase or proceed to checkout page?

Would a transfer from SPG make it an account activity and then being eligible to purchase?

I've just purchased avios through this promotion. I have a UK address, but use an Australian credit card. Never had a problem purchasing avios this way, even when my balance was zero, and I've never credited anything to BA (always to QF). Perhaps your problem is that you're not using a UK address.

This is a very good deal, particularly if redeeming for Qantas domestic short-haul Business class.

I recall having a similar problem of not being able to purchase any Avios during a similar previous promotion due to not having any Avios in my account. To overcome this, I booked a hotel a few months ago through Agoda Points Max and credited the booking to British Airways Executive Club. That seems to be an easy way to accumulate a small amount of miles with BA (and a range of other random programs, for that matter). Using this method the points probably won't credit in time to use this promo, but you would be eligible for future promos.

Approx $260 for Y and $710 for J one way (with 50%bonus), but red e-deals are $205 at the moment....

Must admit that I hadn't thought about using avios for domestic flights, but it does look like a reasonable option.

Just checked CBR-ADL on QF in business. Approx $220 using avios vs $815 for QF cash fare or 24,000 miles for a QF award (whatever that's worth).

I'm having the same issue, cannot purchase due to have zero in my avios account. Mattg, that's a good idea.

Edit: Managed to claim immediate credit for a BA flight I took in June this year. That 'activated' my avios account and took me off a zero balance. I was then able to purchase avios (first time doing so!).

That's correct for PER-SYD and PER-BNE. But PER-MEL is still good value at 10,000 Avios in Y and 20,000 Avios for J (which I estimate to cost $380 during this promo).

are there any sweet spots in terms of intl travel? ideally based out of AUS, but alternatively i understand short haul intra europe is also well priced?

Anything just under 2,000 miles would be a sweeter spot. DUB-BOS with EI gives very little taxes and was very good value a while ago, changes to the chart have made is less good but still attractive. As already mentioned, PER-MEL is a great deal.

CAI-LHR is good value at 10,000 in Y. Compare with 20,000 for DOH-LHR... BTW, I just redeemed ADL-CBR in J for 9,000 avios and the return trip in Y for 4,500.

It's a good thing I remembered I had avios. I was looking at flights from MEL - Gladstone for the long weekend and it was coming to $600+ return. I think I'll use avios to get to BNE and then purchase a cash fare.

I just received an email from BA offering 50% bonus on purchasing Avios - expires 30 June.
