Hi I wanted to find out people's thoughts on a one way QF redemption in F on the PVG-SYD route. Direct flights aren't available on the days I'm looking at.

I saw two options which were via HKG, with the difference being CX vs QF on the HKG-SYD leg.

There is a big difference in the points cost for classic awards

KA805 + CX111 (A330) 114K points

or

KA805 + QF128 (747-400) 68K points

I've never flown in F before and was wondering which is the better offering.

Does CX justify the premium over QF?

I thought KA was a "budget airline" is it worth getting F along this route also?

If there are any useful threads can you let me know, I spent half an hour searching with no success.

Watch out!

I can't find your combination with QF but I had a look at your KA CX combination and the flight from HKG to SYD is in economy class! So I assume that the even cheaper option with QF will be all economy...

Hi Mille,

thanks for replying,

I was looking at the date of 27 Aug this year.

QFF has a sale on redemption flights (economy) 25k odd (usually 36k) one way direct from PVG-SYD
but the chance to go on F was very tempting, though going via HKG for 68k points

I agree, all the F options seem to have the last leg in Y.

As I suspected the HKG to SYD is in economy, so in that case I would save the extra points and fly QF Y instead of CX Y

Ahhh......

Whoa, thanks for the warning Mille and markis10.

Lucky I didn't get trigger happy and get the flight straight away. Have got the direct QF Y flight instead.

As an aside.... Is this common practice that the airline puts a F fare with a Y component?

And back to the original question for future reference - is QF or CX better on HKG-SYD route - how many points should I expect to pay?

For the HKG-SYD route I reckon CX would be the choice in F. Whilst I haven't flown CX F I have visited it one day when flying J and thought it looked better than QF 747 F which I have flown.

Also with HKG being CXs home port it would be the best place to have a CX F flight to or from.

I have noticed it a couple of times. My parents were looking at first class fares on the QF website from FRA. They got the whole way untill they noticed that the F fare they were about to purchase had Y+ seating... They were not happy and lucky they noticed in time.

CX F is a great product if you can get it into SYD anymore? I thought they went 2 class.

KA is not an LCC by any means and has been highly awarded. It's Y service is of a very high standard from my experience.
