Joined Qantas Club last week, wife and I received upgrade to J on CNS to SYD flight two days later, must be luck.

Today with wife off back to CNS but taking our grand child (16) back with us, will I be able to get her into Q lounge?

By the rules, then, no.

However, it should not hurt to ask. It's possible the lounge agent may show a little leniency.

We were all flying, but they let the young 16 year old in with us, she was happy being her first flight and visit to Q lounge.

I've never had trouble getting the whole family - wife and 3 kids - all into the QP when all travelling through an Australian port but for one exception. Had the wife and two of my kids plus their cousin - all were young but well behaved kids. On that particular day, there was a particularly officious jerk who got his rocks off on exercising his authority. Their cousin had a different surname and we were blocked from entering the Cairns QP when he saw this as he checked through the boarding passes - a number of QP members behind us got upset and verbally expressed their disapproval with comments like 'they are a family'. I was amazed how others coming into the club were far more upset than I was. I could tell that the lady sitting next to this guy disapproved of his actions by the look on her face but I could understand that she was not in a position to over rule this guy. By regulations he is absolutely correct so there is some dependence on who is sitting at the entrance on any given day. Additonally the club was not that full and we were only going to be at most 30 minutes. This experience is only one in numerous instances where staff were very lenient in allowing me and more than the strictly allowed number of guests into the lounge.

Must be a Cairns thing as I had to do a bit of talking when in May when I had about 2 hours in the QP and asked 2 friends to visit. There was only me and one other in the lounge at the time.

Did any of the other upset QP members offer their guest spots?

Yes - two did but only one guest each and I was still down one (me plus 3). I did write to QF to give feedback on how this officious behaviour is unnecessary and the person in question should be relieved of face to face roles in the company. I also made it clear that I was aware of the official QP rules to save me getting the cut and paste response. I told them that I did not need or want a response and I therefore did not get one. Have never experienced this elsewhere - I even get the whole family into the first class lounge at Sydney when we were all going economy.
