Just booked myself in for my first 50 minute full body massage in the Flounge in Sydney.. all complementary! Wow .. that's going to be a treat.. think I'll ask to transit through Sydney from here on, on International routes... :D:D:D

... crossing my fingers that'll be a good experience.. :p

That in itself is almost worth to retain the Platinum card priveledges I recon .. only 190 SC's left and I'm flying out SYD-SIN-LHR-OSL today to start with.

Hmmm...

Assume that given you 'booked in' that you are flying F ??

Am 0 for 4 showing up (3hrs before flight) and asking for a booking (once even flying BA F)

No. These days I'm mostly flying Y or discount-Y... but just flaunted the platinum card, and they were very happy to oblige. In fact I was VERY impressed with the facilities as well as the girls' professionalism ..

.. right now I am in transit in Heathrow (T4), and asked for the showers here.. and found out that they've also got a complementary SPA here too .. so I booked myself in for a treatment here as well .. kills time in a good way, I recon..

;-)

Wow you must be charmed - walking in and being able to book a massage at LHR T4 is no mean task.

I have managed about an 80% success rate at LHR T1 FLounge, generally when in transit from a long-haul arrival to a short-haul onward flight.

Arrived at LHR T4 on a Mid March Friday last year. I hit the arrivals lounge shortly after 11am and there were two 30 minute slots available if I have been so inclined (Noon and 1pm IIRC)

I assume the free spa facility is only for International First class ticket holders ?

From the Qantas report it looks like they have the same facility in Melb too.

Does anyone know if it can be used for both arrivals & departures?

Can you pre-book the massage?

Thanks,

Gary.

You can also get it if you are a QFF Plat or OneWorld Emerald member. Note, that you do not have to be flying on QF if that's the case. See this page on qantas.com.

You cannot access the lounge as an arrivals lounge.

If you have an international transfer in SYD then you would have access to the First Lounge between flights, i.e. I am flying LAX-SYD on QF12 and then transferring to QF136 SYD-MEL later this month so will have access to the First Lounge in SYD.

F Pax can pre-book the service. WP and OWE get pot luck on availability - thinking of getting a facial myself this weekend ;)

The new Fist Class lounges in MEL and SYD are available for First class oneworld passengers, QF CL, QF WP and oneworld Emerald.

Departures only.

The Spa is available to all who have access. However, First class passengers can pre-book thier session in the day(s?) prior to arrival and so have first preference, CL's, WP's and Emeralds get the leftover sessions (if any).

Thanks for all the feedback.

So I understand that if have a First class ticket you can pre-book - does this include both Qantas First class frequent flyer point bookings & first class Oneworld award booking using FF points?

Shano - you mentioned you will have access on arrival flying LAX-SYD on QF12 and then transferring to QF136 SYD-MEL. I thought you couldn't access the lounge on international arrivals?

Thanks,

Gary.

Any QF first class ticket should allow you to pre-book.

For my flights listed above, once I de-plane from QF12 I then get re-screened to enter the SYD departures area to wait for QF136. Once back in the departures area I have access to the First Lounge.

If you were transferring from an international flight to a domestic flight at SYD, then on de-planing your international flight you clear customs and immigration and then catch the bus to the domestic terminal. There is no way to access the international departures area if transferring to a domestic flight.

Aaah - sorry - I didn't pick up that it was a domestic sector of an international flight out of SYD.

Hmmm... might have to consider SYD-PER via MEL!

Thanks,

Gary.

Not being a WP (yet :)) I haven't been in the new FLounge, but a colleague has been twice and on both occasions has been told that massages are restricted to F passengers only, and non-F passengers can only have facials. Nothing to do with booking - even if the spa is completely free, massages for F passengers only.

Any truth to that? I suggested they were trying to fob her off, but it's happened on two separate occasions. Apparently the staff members were quite clear - facials for WPs if spaces are available, but massages for F passengers only.

Cheers,
- Febs.

I travelled Y to AKL 5weeks ago and had a massage for about 45mins. Very relaxx_xxing.
Other 2 occassions they said they were fully booked before my departure time. One of these was when I was taking JQ to BKK so I thought they might turn me down because of this.
Just a pity the spa isn't open in the evening as I am travelling QF29 to LHR with Ms Va Bene. There was some talk about expanding the times but when I asked at the F Lounge on Tues they said the hours had not been extended.
Looks like it is dinner and champagne instead.

Interesting!

Does anyone know the opening hours of the Spa/Massage facility?
(I couldn't seem to find mention of it on the Qantas website)

It the new First lounge in Melb the same as the one in Syd?

Thanks,

Gary.

I believe it's 9am-5pm Daily.

Go here: SYD or MEL.

In the Spa section, select [TREATMENTS] and there is more information.

While the facilities are similar, the MEL lounge is somewhat smaller than the SYD one.

I flew out of SYD yesterday as a WP not in F, and managed to get a half hour massage. It was very enjoyable and I hope to experience it again at sometime.
