Say, I book an award trip now for February 2010 - using QFF points.

If before the travel dates in February 2010 I want to cancel the trip altogether, will Qantas re-credit my points? How many points in cancellation fee will they charge me? What about the cash I pay for the taxes and charges? Will they refund me this amount in total? Or, only part of it?

Would appreciate some replies, if anyone has done this. Thanks.

I think it's a 5000 point cancellation fee but you could confirm this from the Qantas website. Taxes paid in cash should be fully refundable.

Without looking (and I think this info is all available at the QF website), I think its 5000 points cancellation fee (all other points refunded), and you should get the taxes etc. refunded.

I have cancelled an award flight and the above is my recollection.

Hi,

You will lose 5000 points but you will get the taxes back.

Thanks, everyone, for your replies - much appreciated!

It is good to know that I will lose 5,000 points as the cancellation fee (before travel dates) of an award trip booked but will get back the taxes paid. We want to go to the US next year, but are not sure if hubby can take time off work then. We have seen award seats available for next year and would like to secure them now - in the event we can make the trip.
