I'm travelling to Alice Springs for the long weekend on a 717.

Have never been on one, do they have any IFE? Meals? Decent Seats??

Hi bambbbam2,

The 717-200s are lovely aircraft to fly on..

Aim for a seat towards the front, as not only will you have the opportunity to deplane first, the pitch is ~ 32" (31" at the back of the bus).

Meals? Along with Qantas mainline flights, the meal served will be depend on the time of departure. I flew DRW-GOV-CNS a couple of months ago and not long after departure from DRW was served a hot breakfast (very nice) consisting of bacon/egg/potato fritter. It appears PER-ASP is a lunch service, so I'd expect something along the lines of a Panini + your standard drinks offering.

Unfortunately the 717-200s do not feature any sort of IFE system so bring along a Book/iPod (etc), stare out the window or sleep!

Happy Flying!

Cheers,
WD

I flew on the Qantaslink 717-200 on ASP-AYQ-PER and then DRW-GOV-CNS in March 2007.

I had seats in rows 2 and 3 and they were very comfortable. If I remember correctly it is a 2-3 configuration. I think there was lunch served on the AYQ-PER sector and a hot breakfast on the DRW-GOV sector. I like the friendliness of the Qantaslink crew and thoroughly enjoyed those flights.

Yes they are 2-3. Qantaslink staff are very friendly. I also like the handrails along the overheads in the 717, good for getting to the loo if the flight is a bit bumpy;)

With engines at the back, the front is very quiet and the back few seats rather noisy.

Ahhh... the days of the QF 717 flight OOL-SYD.

Although no Business Class seats available, when I used to commute OOL-SYD-CBR, the 717 was my preferred flight. Always get a seat up the pointy end - forget about a quiet relaxing flight down the back.

Food was like a normal Qantaslink flight - which personally in Y is much better than QF Y.

Last time I flew on one was PER-KGI-PER. PER-KGI was an arvo flight, complementry glass of wine, i think cheese and bikkies. KGI-PER was early morning and I think was hot brekkie.

Its a beautiful aircraft too... although one was written off up in Darwin in Jan from what I remember.

I think technically it has not been written off exactly ;)

Flew PER-Ayers Rock-CNS last month.

Yes, seats at front are better - had Row 2ab. Food is better than QF Y - 2 fullish meals. Have to be rexrayed at Ayers Rock which is a pain!

Don't dare use your camera at landing or before and during take off - hostesses get really Sh__y!

Not sure where its at, but when the ATSB preliminary report was released last month Qantas were reported to have stated it would be back flying late April.
