Hello,

I was wondering if anyone here knows much about Qantas' 767 fleet disposal plans.

For instance, why would they paint their 763 VH-OGD in the new livery just to dispose of it before others such as OGB for example which is older (perhaps it was the Dreamtime interior that saved her for so long?).

What's the logic behind the aircraft chosen for retirement versus those that stay?

It would seem to me that they'd want to get rid of their oldest 338's first (maybe 88-90 models) then the 336's and finally the rest? Correct me if I am wrong?

Cheers. Chris.

Airline disposal programs have to take into account financing (leasing) arrangements, and they are usually different for each plane, or group of planes in one order.
Just like people are advised to pay off their credit cards first when managing unmanageable debt, airlines will usually get rid of the most expensive planes first. This may or may not be the newest ones. Also, sometimes a newer plane might have a higher unit cost (eg. heavier, or less efficient for no apparent reason). That factors too.

It may also depend on where aircraft are at in their maintenence cycles as well.

Ahh I forgot that one - you're spot on: it's one of the most important factors. An upcoming D or even C check is a frightening thing $ wise to any airline. Similarly, they really struggle to let go of a recently heavy-checked aircraft...the investment made is not really recoupable in the 2nd hand market.

Interestingly OGG is back in country with a new QF paint job after a heavy maintenance in SIN (and all ready for her 21st Birthday party one presumes ;))

Pity it didn't get a new interior at the same time!
