just wondering if there is individual screens on the seats on the flights going to manila via- syd - bris

thanks

In WHY - No ... main screen only.

In J -Yes, there's PIFE* operating a 2½ loop with 6 movie and 2 TV channels.

Going off topic but how is the in-flight entertainment in WHY on AA 767s flying across the Atlantic. Individual IFEs? Some of the flights like ORD-LHR, JFK-CDG, JFK-FCO are ~7-9 hours and would be almost torture to pass the time without individual IFE screens.

Lack of provided IFE I don't find an issue given that I don't use the airline IFE but just use a laptop if wanting to watch stuff

and unlike QF, AA does provide in-seat power for passengers in the Y cabin. Not all y seats have power, so check the seat map and select accordingly. You may have to share with a neighbour.

So no IFE. Is there IFE in WHY on the AA 777s? If not, better to concentrate on BA routes connecting via LHR instead of the direct AA routes.

That would be OK if you are going to take a laptop with you on a personal RTW trip. Some people may, I wouldn't bother.

Yes, they do. See this picture of the Y cabin of an AA 777-200/. Not AVOD, but a repeating loop system.

Many people do travel with portable entertainment equipment (not always a laptop computer) and use it for more than just passing the hours on board the aircraft.

What portable entertainment equipment? What other uses? Please excuse my ignorance but unfortuantely the new technology bug has bypassed me and I limit the amount of new technology I possess to a mobile phone and laptop.

PSP, NintendoDS, portable DVD player, iPod touch with decent size screen

People take laptops to download photos, surf the net (to stay in touch with family or upload a blog or find teh best pizza restaurant in Shanghai).

I take my laptop as well to watch TV shows I have downloaded so I can catch up on stuff when mrssimongr is sleeping, shopping or spaing...

and of course, no interruptions with PA announcements when watching own entertainment

These days the only IFE on plane I tend to use is the moving map

Videos can can watched from many devices including iPods, portable DVD players, PDAs, game "consoles" like PSP and even mobile phone. Many people just like to relax listening to music on an MP3 player. I have an electronic book reader/viewer that some people would also use for personal entertainment (reading). These all fall under the general category of "portable entertainment equipment".

Certainly rates highly with me.

FWIW, I use a laptop with NC headphones. I download DVD's onto the hard drive so I do not have to fiddle with optical media on the trip.

I did try a compact portable DVD play, but it had insufficient volume.

Even with the laptop (HP), volume was an issue with most common video playing software (WMP, Nero, Quicktime etc) simply not putting out enough dB when in flight.

I now use VLC media player - Overview, it has a soft volume control that varies from 0% to 200% and does the trick.
