Hi all, I don't know if this has been discussed.. but here I go.

Is Qantas planning on updating the A330-300 cabins to the newer domestic -200 models? Like new IFE and updated Skybeds?

I doubt any change will be made and certainly not Skybeds, given the new A332s dont have them, and the fleet will be expanded by JQs A332s as they get 787s.

but they are so old and yucky in Y, even row 23.. flew QF68 last night and flight started with a return to the gate for a 2 hour sit while an engine problem was rectified... I cannot stand them.

Average age is 5 years and oldest is 9, I cannot see them changing too much in the near future.

QF's form on this type of decision is not good at present! Some of their 767s are geriatric but still being held onto for this decade it seems...

They could be running these domestically with more Y seats and more J seats, swapping the A332's for international routes if they all had sky-beds

At the very least the international A330s should be upgraded to A380 spec like the 747s. Product consistency is almost as important as consistency in service and QF are consistently inconsistent at both.
Have I used the word consistent enough?

They only have 4 200s with Skybeds - G H I & L, given BKK is now A330 they dont have enough.

Consistently.

Like most of their peers then!

A number of airlines seem to have a better spec on their long haul fleets compared to the mid-haul/regional fleets.

No...

I tend to fly on other things rather than the A333's, so my experience with them is limited. That said when the dom A332's are nicer than the int A333's there is certainly a problem...
As for QF and consistency, didn't they do a big push a few years back about how they wanted to become consistent in everything they did? What ever happened to that?

Well, they did say they were making more money from domestic than international....

At least they are consistent with talking about consistency but not really being consistent about implementation!

I was in Y on QF51/52 a few days ago, and the cabin isn't that bad. Only if row 23 had gate-to-gate IFE...

I get the point regarding the IFE considering that the newer domestic -200s have the Panasonic IFE, but the older -300's have the RC systems, however what difference is there between the domestic seats and the -300's?

Apart from newer seats, are they not both the same at 31 inches of pitch? Both still ordinary in anyones books. Updated Skybeds definitely do not feature on the domestic -200's, and the domestic J Cabin is the topic of much hate. I would agree that it would be nice if the international 330's, the 747's and the 380's had the same product, but to lament QF for the lack of consistency is quite funny considering that quite a few other airlines that are held in high esteem seem to have the same problem themselves. (EK, SQ, TG to get the list going).

Finally, aren't all the 330's powered by GE engines?
