Has anyone flown in Qantas A380 Premium Economy? I have booked Mrs and self SYD/LHR/SYD on QF31/32 and am interested in any comments about the seating. It appears that the seat pitch varies between 37 and 42 inches, depending on whether the seats are in the centre (37) or sides (42). I could only book seats together in the centre section.

... On what basis / where from do you have the pitch information?

Looking at the Qantas seat map, I noticed that the leg-space for centre seats 35, 36 & 37 appeared to be shorter than the others (where my seats are allocated on both flights). So I looked up Seatguru (SeatGuru Seat Map Qantas Airways Airbus A380 (380)) and at the top of the page they show that the seat pitch varies between 38 and 42 inches.

"My impression" - he didnt sit in them or anything.

Methinks we need someone who has actually enjoyed (? endured) a 14hr stretch in Y+!

Having said that, it's not uncommon for the last row to look tight (and/or be tight)

I'm hoping to do a points upgrade to J for both flights, given that there are 72 J seats and Feb is supposed to be quietish. One lives in hope.

I do recall asking (no answer) here when PE was still in the offing, what the seat pitch really was, given that IIRC, the QF blurb claimed PE to be "up to" 42 inch pitch, implying that it could be less in some cases.

Maybe this is an example? I cannot see why it was claimed to be "up to" unless they actually didn't know at the time (unlikely IMO) or that it was less than 42" in some instances.

You guys all make a 38 inch pitch sound like a bad thing! Granted its not 42 inch, but still a good 6 inch more than economy! (and yes - I'd prefer the 42 inch pitch seats as well)

NZ's Y+ is quoted as 39-40" IIRC... and it is marvellous compared to ANY normal Y if you ask me..

38 or 42? ....I doubt QF's new product will feel any less of an improvement regardless of which is correct!

Enjoy!!!

pblackm..... I'd be putting in for the upgrades too! No matter how good these new Y+ seats/cabins are, they don't compare to C (or J if you prefer..:D)

BUT I've got to say- it is a significant comfort to know that if the UG doesn't happen.. the fallback position is Y+!!

Makes the whole process much less stressful...

P.S. Wonder how many folks "routinely" use Y+ simply as a better-bet-for-UG proposition?

Most of my international business travel is J, but when going to conferences etc at my expense (usually USA) I sometimes fly Qantas Y. As we know, upgrades to J on to LAX are very hard to come by. Now that Qantas have a Y+ offer, I will use that for my budget trips.
