Qantas to Codeshare with Finnair 12 January 2011
Qantas today announced a new codeshare partnership with Finnair, adding Helsinki to its European network.

The arrangement will see Qantas codeshare on Finnair flights between Bangkok and Helsinki from February 2011 and on Finnair’s new service between Singapore and Helsinki from May 2011

Finnair will codeshare on Qantas services between both Bangkok and Singapore and Australia.

Great news AY have great J prices but you usually get stuck on Cathay... Knowing you can book QF is great!

Airline management is strange.

Finnair could not make HEL-BKK-SIN work but they seem to think that HEL-BKK and HEL-SIN can exist together.

Double good news for reasonable J fares to Europe and hopefully good connections and transit in SIN?

I'm sure that QF have had codeshares with AY to Helsinki before from BKK - I remember looking at them on the route map at the back of "The Australian Way" magazine. This might have been about 3-4 years ago?

Qantas is very limited in its oneworld codeshares beyond BA/AA - something you definitely notice when at a Star hub with the endless *A codeshares!

Nee some guidance please -Re: Qantas adds AY codeshares ex BKK/SIN from 10 Feb/30 May

Hello all. I have booked Finnair Economy Perth to Singapore (flight AY5010) 09th July then on to Helsinki (flight AY82), then to Paris on flight AY871. Plus return legs on AY874 commencing 21st July, AY81 to Singapore and then into Perth on AY5009.

I am totally confused on the points issue and have had a most interesting discussion with QFF who didn't know the codesharing was happening. Will I be entitled to QFF points or ??. All and any guidance is most appreciated.

Welcome rjgriff.

AY is part of the alliance and your flights are operated by oneworld aircraft, so you will be entitled to QFF points. Make sure you put your QF number on all your segments.

Note that since you booked your flights on the AY code (rather than the QF code), you will need to look up the Airline Earning Table on the QF website to check how many points you will earn. The table is located at Frequent Flyer - About the Program - Terms & Conditions. According to the AY (Finnair) section of the table, if you have booked Discount Economy then you can expect to earn between 0.25 - 0.5 points per mile flown.

Always received points and SC's on AY but you don't get status bonus points.

Only problem I can see so far is that exactly the same flights as AY flight numbers cost AUD6903 and when booked as QF flight numbers they are AUD13698

Thanks anatOl and ozmille for the info. Think I have it pretty well sorted now and also confirmed from Finnair that as part of the 'Alliance' they do transfer the points, which after May 30th should be on a 1 point basis, not the 0.25 or 0.5 point current offering. And ozmille I paid a lot less than $6900 for the tickets!!

Will be interested to see if QF actually do make such a change to the AY earning structure.
