I am due to fly from MEL to HKG in December with Qantas with an allocated 23kg of luggage. I am also a Gold FF but wont be taking advantage of my extra weight allowance. After 2 days my next flight from HKG to London is booked on the same ticket but with BA where I am allowed 1 piece. From London I will be changing aircraft to fly to Amsterdam, this ticket was booked on a separate itinerary although I am hoping to get my luggage checked straight through to AMS as they will both be on BA.

My question relates to my change in luggage allowance from weight to pieces. If I fly with 2 pieces will BA honor the 2 pieces flown with Qantas or will I have to pay for the extra piece? Also, will I have any issue getting my luggage checked straight through to AMS ?

thanks!

The BA allowance of 1PC will almost certainly apply. To confirm for certain, go t Book Flights, Hotels, Holidays, Car Rental with British Airways - BA.com and go to manage my booking where it will show your baggage allowance. I would also suggest checking your booking on the Qantas sire to see whether the piece allowance has come across into the QF booking ( which it may have )

If you have 2 pieces, BA will allow you to have it but will charge the excess bag fee ( which is reduced if you pay in advance )

I've had a look at my booking on Qantas and for some reason the allowance is blank whilst the allowance for BA shows as one piece. I'll give them a call in the morning!

Well, for BA, if you wanna take 2 pieces you will need to pay the extra cost

I would check whether QF is down ( as I expect ) to be 23Kg or whether it also allows 1PC

indeed you will have to pay 25quid for the extra bag. Ive just recently done a flight much like the one your about to, however i did fly J and got 3 bags at 32. But Y drops all the way down to one bag at 23kgs. anything extra is 25quid that is unless your a WP.

And as for your check-in for straight through to AMS as long as you have printed an itinerary of your LHR-AMS flight, the BA check in gal will be able to check them through. But they wont unless you have the printed itinerary.

BA does not offer additional baggage allowance regardless of status ... ( they will be changing to allow BA Gold/Silver members to take an additional piece but that will not , I believe, apply to other OW members )

The additional cost for the extra bag for a longhaul flight is GBP90 which is discounted if paid in advance. The GBP90 will cover both the BKK-LHR and LHR-AMS legs

ahh my bad... I got my info of the BA business check in woman.

As stated the BA policy will apply, however depending on the size of the second bag you may be able to shink-wrap it onto the first bag to form one larger bag. Of course, the larger 'combined' bag would need to conform to dimension and weight rules.

As strange as this sounds I have done it before myself, and I know some AFF members have done the same.

Alternatively, given that you have identified the problem prior to leaving, you could always buy a larger bag to take?
