Qantas and Eva Airways will cease their codeshare relationship, effective 1 March 2013. Qantas will continue to offer a range of fare products servicing the Australia/Taipei market via Hong Kong and Shanghai, connecting with Cathay Pacific and Dragon Air.

Never knew CX and KA fly PVG-TPE.
 
Looks like to get in bed with EK they had to be completely exclusive… so long as that doesn't involve leaving OW there's no problem yet…

Maybe, but QF codeshare with OZ & SA, both established star alliance members. I suspect it has nothing to do with EK, and a combination of the star alliance entry and QF wanting pax to fill their own services to HKG and then transfer (in the short term) on to CA/CX or (longer term) onto a QF code on Jetstar Hongkong (:rolleyes:) !
 
gotta be a prelude to JQ HK coming online - seems likely they will enter HKG-TPE market given it is not the mainland and is a high frequency destination from HK.

Hong Kong Airlines is currently trying to run a full service on this route at LCC prices but their reputation and brand are tarnished. CX will be livid if JQ HK start HKG-TPE and seriously undercut them as they get a lot of cream from it by tagging to international flights (did someone say CX Australian LCC? :)).
 
CX might get cream on HKG-TPE, but they give out free cream on ex-TPE
 
Does anyone know the extent of the codeshare relationship? Did Qantas only had a codeshare on the Brisbane - Taipei route?

Only Brisbane flights I believe.

Why would it be a prelude to drop a direct TPE codeshare, they already have 3K from Singapore and Japan servicing TPE.

A few reasons - for one the timing fits with the JQ HK launch and the tenuous QF/CX relationship

Also JQ HK is going to need somewhere to fly where they can stimulate demand with low prices, do quick turnarounds and that is a preferred destination for HK leisure market.

TPE is all of these things - don't think HKers are going to want to to via SIN! :)

I dont think it has anything to do with JQ Hong Kong, and everything to do with Eva changing its services and dropping BNE at the same time.
