QANTAS and Virgin Australia inching towards support for aviation ombudsman

QF and VA give conditional support for ombudsman.

Australia’s two major airlines have backflipped and given conditional approval to an industry-wide aviation ombudsman who would deal with passenger complaints and refunds.

An Aircraft Noise Ombudsman already exists to regulate and deal with complaints, but the aviation green paper prepared for federal Transport Minister Catherine King and released last September examined the need for either a passenger bill of rights or a strong ombudsman to oversee the sector and deal with complaints about airlines from customers.

Conditionally agreeing to interpose a bureaucracy rather then support passengers actually having any "rights" other then their unknown quantity known as the "bundle of (no) rights".

Let me guess, they'll put together a self-policed "Code of Conduct" and all agree to working towards it together as an industry amongst much fanfare.

The only reason they would support this is to prevent an EU style scheme being implemented.

In other words, avoiding being directly and immediately responsible for action, when needed. Set up an ombudsman, water down it's effectiveness as much as possible - and let the happy days continue...
